I would never ever dream of buying a footballers autobiography because 99.9% have nothing of interest to say. Mathew Syed is a very good choice of co-writer. I may just make an exception for our Joey's book especially regarding what he'd have to say about Warnock!

Me too.
One thing however he certainly used to like showing off a girl I know vagueley (friend of a friend from Uni) dated him for a couple of months when she was at uni (with my friend) anyway Joey (then a Citeh player and just breaking through) turned up at some uni ball they were at with about 3 cars (limos) and was splashing the cash as you do when your a pro footie player.
He bought her quite a few bits and bobs and a very nice necklace (and quite expensive) I think she still has it years later.
Funny thing is I'd totally forgotten about this until I read that article just earlier on I saw posted to Twitter.

I like this quote from the journalist:

"the love that we bestow on them when they do what we want and the furious revenge we want to exact when they disappoint us."

An extremely long article which didn't tell us very much that we didn't know already.

I found his interview on Open All R's very revealing in that once he started talking he didn't stop. While I didn't blame him for being bitter at Ashley and the Newcastle hierarchy, my main concern was that he seemed so preoccupied with himself (or the wrongs that had been done to him) that he wasn't connected to what was going on around him. He didn't do conversation, only monologues.

Perhaps the deterioration in his performances prior to being dropped wasn't necessarily pure selfishness, more self-absorption. Lacking a sense of balance of his own role in relation to the team and he was trying to do everything himself (and covering a lot of ground in the process). Now he is doing less, but doing it better.

All the purest speculation on my part.

Yep, agreed. I also liked two elements, one in which he told a journalist who had been digging him out 'Actually, your articles are shit. The journalist didn't like that. (interviewing journalist says ' I bet he didn't.')

And to another journlastic looking for a rise from him 'Your industry is finding it's level in relation to Leveson Enquiry and your losing. History is written by victors.'

I'm all for honesty, but I think that is honesty used as a weapon. It's the verbal equivalent of one his nightclub brawls at some slight or other.

Above all, these remarks are not the remarks of a leader, who needs to inspire and rise above the situation if necessary.

Fábregas was interviewed today, and it looks like he had the Barton problem when he was at Arsenal:
"I feel I know more what my position now than I was at Arsenal — at Arsenal I was tactically not very good at all," he said. "I did whatever I wanted. Now I have to think more about the team tactically. Before I was going up and down and sometimes a little bit lost in the important moment because I wanted to do everything. Now, my team-mates are more experienced than me and I trust them — they have told me to be calm, to stay in my position."

"Even so, there's a subtext to much of the commentary that, if I were him, might make me quite angry. Because essentially, when he's now referred to as art-lover Joey Barton, or Nietzsche-quoting Joey Barton, or social-media philosopher Joey Barton, there's a sense that he's a) putting it on, b) taking the piss or c) getting a bit above himself. Which is really just another way of saying the bourgeoisie isn't quite sure what to do if someone working class goes to an art gallery."

Fair point by the journo.

"The opposite of love, after all, is not hate, but indifference."
