Oldham Match Thread on 14:30 - Mar 15 by richfoad32 | Poor header out I think by Beckwith?, when he'd have been better off putting it out for a corner. Ultimately disappointing but a decent enough point. |
Think it was Kingdon Rich. As it's the first major mistake I remember him making I'm not going to be too hard on him but yes, a header behind was by far the safer option. Good lesson to learn

As soon as I saw EEL come on Allarakhia go off I thought we would probably conceed and wouldn't win the game. Exactly what happened.

The sub made sense in as far as Allarakhia was having real problems dealing with Caprice and Kingdon can play on the right, but it would have been much easier if Buyabu was available as in the past rather than a total reshuffle. It’s one of Ayinde or Adu Poku on the bench from now on if all the loanees are fit. That’s the problem with having one too many.

Halifax, York (and Barnet ) all in good form. Boston also won to-day but an opportunity to rotate a few players?

Oldham Match Thread on 14:27 - Mar 15 by Rodingdale | Finished 1-1 - a good game not to lose. But with a bit more sharpness up front and we’d have won that comfortably. Defence did not do much wrong and it shows the progress we’ve made being slightly disappointed not to have got the three points. Special mention to the comic book outfit on commentary, one eyed bias, zero research on Dale and apparently the referee was a pecan? [Post edited 15 Mar 14:35]

Speaking of defence Hogan is rock solid at the back, seemed to get on the end of everything, lovely to have a "proper' centre half who's got a bit of bite about them and loves to do the dirty work. Very good first half just not sure why we went so defensive after half time and just invited trouble, obviously Oldham had to come at us but thought the whole second half's mission was to simply hold on to the 1 goal lead, it was never going to happen. The difference in Bird and Cairo is enormous, not sure the latter won a single header all game, Bird is far too good for this level.

My observations are that we should have won but went slightly defensive towards the end and they capitalised. It was a game not to lose, but one that we really should have won. Thought Gilmour had a good game and our defence was good when they did the simple things. Oldham were far less effective than when we played them a few weeks ago.

Invited pressure and succumbed in the end, bit disappointing against a mediocre team lacking in ideas. Bird looks the full package - big, strong, mobile and quick with good feet. Great bit of recruitment, as is Kingdon - Van Dijk would have been proud of his turn in the 2nd half that sent two defenders for a hot dog. Sounds concerning about Easty, fingers crossed he's OK and back to good health soon.

Jim said that Ryan had a medical incident as they were about to leave Spotland and it shook everybody up. Seems he has had tests this afternoon and he is okay. Hope he gets well soon.

Mitchell did win some headers but needs someone playing alongside him. He is by no means a target man or lone striker. Bird is reminding me more and more of OGrady in his style. Mitchell reminds me of Paul Connor. Not great in the air but good at chasing onto knock downs

Oldham Match Thread on 20:52 - Mar 15 with 689 views | Daley_Lama | In the first half today we had a great break and 2v1 in TA and KM. KM made a perfect run for the ball to be slid down the side of the defender but TA thought different. This was a repeat of a similar position in a recent game only replace TA with Mcbride. Whether he would have scored is moot, but he is making good runs as a striker should do. We should have put the game to bed today but moments like the above hold us back. Fast forward into the second half and KM has the option of a tight angle shot or a square ball to TA. Tight angled shot taken. We should have scored more than one before their equaliser, but that’s our own doing. After the defeat at home, it was good to see us play well v Oldham. If the team could get it into their collective heads that they are good enough to look for the second, then third, rather than defend the one goal they really could go places. Decent point. More than decent performance .

Two points dropped that today, the best teams put those games to bed and rather than try to hang on they keep their foot on the jugular of the opposition. Substitutions are made to enhance the threat instead of trying to preserve a narrow lead. Having said that I thought today was a proper performance, the whole team turned up for a big game and as a fan i thought they did us proud, very good performances all over the pitch. Bird is O'Grady in disguise, Gilmour did the work of two men, Burger put in a great shift and so did Barlow. Hogan was stand out today though, great performance. Beat Boston on Tuesday and today will be a even better result. Credit to McNulty, performances and results have turned around over the last two weeks, let's keep it up.

Hope that the players can use that they can mix it with good sides as a positive motivation. Oldham although scoring a late equaliser will be more worried by the result. I think we have the tools to finish above them. Gateshead are also going through a poor patch. Some nice passages of play today which if repeated against lesser sides may yield goals. The resolve was there which bodes well. Boston are on a good run but so are we. If Bird is able to recover and East is recovered enough to play a full part (no given) then we can still control and win the game on Tuesday. Loving the upturn in form. Long may it continue. Well done lads. UTD

You're right about Bird and the resemblance to COG, Cairo is a passenger if he doesnt score, his all round play is nowhere near good enough, hes got that annoying skill where he seems to shrink when going up for a header

Played four teams in the last month who are playoff contenders if you count Halifax as well. Been the better side for long periods of all those games.
