'Roll substitutions on and off' is just another ridiculous excuse. McNulty has the option to roll substitutions on and off also but he didn't do. He has a good squad and decent options on the bench. The league table says we have been superior to Southend all season so his attempt to pull the wool over the fans eyes with his 'football speak' doesn't wash unfortunately. It seems that the opposition manager outsmarted him with his in game substitutions. That's what happened. I watched the game on the telly and we are a reflection of the manager..nice to look at but too soft, lacking fire in our belly and a desire to kill off teams. Mc Nulty is managing us out of the plays offs, he'll have a excuse for it though and cite the three year plan. It's similar to BBM relegating us with a good squad of players, there's no character or steel in the team.

You've absolutely nailed it with that post!

I've never been a McNulty fan, he lost me after his first game in charge of his first caretaker spell after a 1-0 defeat at Gillingham when we were pointless and bottom of league 2 and he described it as a 'free hit'. I get that he was the cheap option when we were skint but the three year deal that he was given last summer was a joke and smacked of a another terrible Simon Gauge decision.

The sooner that Gauge and McNulty are out of our club the better.

I dont think Gauge will leave of his own accord. Mc Nulty will either be sacked or he will wait for a better option to present itself.

Hmmm... does that qualify as "bed-wetting", a term you used recently to describe experienced fans who can see our loss of form with clear eyes and a dry repose at night?

Not at all, I wouldn’t lay odds against us reaching the play off, and would probably back us at a shade of odds on. The FA Tropy should not really get in the way of that. Interesting that 7th placed Altricham are the side we play in the next round of the Trophy. Will both teams go at it full bore. I hope they do.
I am at least consistent in saying we are inconsistent. Despite the two recent draws it is no easy task to predict which version of of Dale will turn up for any game.

There was a comment about physicality, and I agree a player like Jimmy Ryan, when fit, would be a real asset in this team.

The recent Oldham game gave us some clear answers, I agree TS, we need to recruit two muscle men with fire in their bellies or our season is over.
As others have alluded to McNulty needs to be sacked or he changes his tactics...
Leaving one or two players upfront when we defend corners.
Have another player working alongside Mitchell, it doesn't work with one upfront.
Rather than getting three quarters up the pitch and then passing the ball from one side of the pitch to the other, we need to GET THE BALL IN THE BOX, and make sure our players react to that.
As clearly shown yesterday substitutions need to be made in a timely manner, and McNulty demonstrates match after match he doesn't have that basic managerial skill.
The essential starting point for Project 5000 is ENTERTAINMENT of fans and McNulty is not on the same page. His brand of football is grey. Pass, pass, pass and pass again. The penny still hasn't dropped with him that we want much more excitement...our owners can afford to sack him and put these costs in the area of Project 5000. Money well spent. There is still enough time to save this season...just do it !!
[Post edited 16 Feb 11:24]

Speaking of project 5000, in two weeks time we have a absolutely massive home game against Altrincham, beat them and we are one game from Wembley and would be favourites to win the first meaningful trophy in the history of the club. Does McNulty see the significance of the Altrincham game and does he embrace it? Do those in the Boardroom recognise the importance of this game? If you are looking at launching a 5000 project then this is a marketing dream for the club and could kick start a generation of new fans and significantly boost season ticket sales over the season if we can link Wembley tickets with early bird offers on season tickets.
I'm not confident anybody at the club has even recognised the significance of what is at stake though, theyve probably not even given it any in depth planning or thought. Mc Nulty will hate the pressure, even if it's the FA Trophy and he'll talk Altrincham up as though they are Real Madrid. If those in the Boardroom have the stomach for it they should be rallying the Town and looking at strengthening the forward line this week. Let's see how it pans out, it's the biggest game of our season but we'll probably wimp out of it like we do in big games.

Could absolutely be a defining moment for McNulty

Grab it, go for it, send a message that he's on board with the revival of our brilliant football club which started when the Ogdens stepped in

Just don't go out onto the pitch before kick off, applaud the fans and then deliver the ultimate damp squib of a non-performance

The way the new management team market this will also be interesting

Apparently season ticket holders have till Wednesday to buy their seat or the club sells it.

Long way to go to change the attitude of the club towards the 2000 - let alone the 5000.

That story about the Altrincham tickets appeared on Wednesday this week I think, if it was earlier my mistake. That means season ticket holders have had a priority window of a week, which is perfectly acceptable and in line with most ticketing processes.

All for constructive criticism of mistakes the club makes - but what exactly have they done wrong in this instance?

We need a step change in mentality here. Surely with this bonus match the objective should be to fill the ground, build the fan base. REWARD season ticket holders for their support by giving free entry and encourage them to bring a friend for a fiver. It’s an opportunity- think outside the box, not how many tenners can we grab from our most loyal fans.

Instead the club turns it into a bureaucratic runaround.

How many empty seats there going to be at this game?

Two different issues. The season ticket priority window is fine, if anything the bureaucracy around that protects their interests.

Other initiatives? Valid points for a lot of games but also worth considering that as it’s a cup competition we would presumably be splitting the gate with the away club and would require their agreement when ticket offers are discussed? ie/eg we’d have to offer free entry to their season ticket holders too.

I was responding to TSs post - there is a lot of inertia to overcome at our club if we are to progress. I have seen a lot of false dawns, opportunities missed - the Boxing Day promotion a year or so back, more bums on seats not capitalised on. Kiosks ran out etc. I will continue to be critical until I see real change. You’ll probably be saying but wait, we’ve got new resources in, this Willoughby chap, give him a chance. I will give him a chance, but it’s always so slow, like Jim’s team, pass pass pass, very little end product. Has the Altrincham game been carpet marketed? Big game on Saturday v Barnet - is there a promotion on offer, tickets on sale for the Alty game - in the club bars? Free pint for each ticket? I don’t know? Why don’t I know? Because it’s not being marketed. Given the bloody dross Jim serves up for entertainment your going to have to go out of your way to make it attractive.

I am provoking debate, the club is up till now is what is negative. Stickers on seats, away travel etc. If we are to get to 5,000 home fans, we are going to need to overcome the inertia that has existed for many years. We need a can do attitude, not ah well there’s this rule and that rule and it’s all too difficult- what we’ve been fed by Gauge for years. It needs to go that attitude. So no, it’s not for the sake of it, it’s because there’s reason to.

Good post, attitudes at the club do have to change. Gauge should no longer be involved in the day to day running of the club or the decision making. The Ogdens have people in salaried positions to run the club now so it's the likes of Andy Duff who is responsible for overseeing these sort of things. I dont think Cameron Ogden would be very impressed if Simon Gauge was interfering with those that have been specifically tasked to do their job. Individuals with far more experience than Gauge will ever have and if they have any backbone they will remind him of that should he try to interfere and report it back to Cameron Ogden. Employment tribunals and compensation payments have cost the club in the past so let's hope the club is now run in a professional way and there is respect given to all members of staff. The last thing we need is any individuals sticking their beak in when people are trying to do their job

The argument about the ability of those at the club is of course one we all have showed interest in and offered opinion on.

For some reason, a point made about the priority window for season ticket holders has now been forgotten about. Probably because it was proven to be a non-issue.

It will be interesting to how many season ticket holders have taken up the option by close of play on Wednesday. You’d like to think that most will have done so but fears about the pitch plus the cost of a forthcoming glut of fixtures may deter some people I suppose.
I go in the Sandy so the deadline doesn’t apply and I’m hoping to buy a ticket for this cup tie in person before the game this Saturday. I’ll be asking for a paper copy as I don’t trust my antiquated relic of a phone!

Given the majority of this forthcoming glut of fixtures are at home, season ticket holders have already paid for them.

Costs which increase if you take the family.

It remains an issue because the club has put an obstacle to be negotiated if you want to have your usual seat. For those that are digitally challenged that means a trip to the ground which will deter some people. That is all. There are 8,000 non season ticket seats why make things difficult. As you are fond of saying - attitude.

It’s not just Dale who have priority windows! This was brought up at the forum by a supporter to ensure season ticket holders get priority for some games - they have.therefore the club have listened.

The digitally challenged will still need to take a trip to the ground to get a ticket or have to queue before the game at the ticket office. Queues that would be much larger if those in the ticket office have to spend extra time taking the seat details from a ST holder. They can also ring the club, it’s in the story.

The club are not making things difficult, as you note I will call out issues and attitude when it needs to improve. In this case it’s a total non-issue as it’s a recognised process that has existed previously with no problems at all.

Win this and 90 minutes from a Wembley final.

Agreed a marketing dream that will be played out in under 2 weeks time.

I am sure the club will go into overdrive this week with its promotion of the game and its importance...
