To clarify to date on 20:51 - Jan 4 by vetchonian | I was at Portsmouth too....my first l league away game for 40 years....wasn't nit miserable I'm in agreement we should let it drop and let Coleman do what he deems the best. Unfortunately there is a group who don't agree.... |
Did you actually watch the game at portsmouth?

I did I saw all but the last 5 minutes. I was soaked from waiting outside to get in Stood and supported despite the players serving up crap. The second goal right in front of us a joke. It was crap.....but on my years of following and watching the Swans I've seen worse. We are a mid table Championship club and 41 years ago I'd have settled for that

To clarify to date on 18:03 - Jan 4 by Dr_Winston | Replacing a manager is expensive and disruptive and not to be done on a whim. I don't doubt that serious conversations are being had between Coleman and the other investors as to whether or not Williams is the right option going forward. Maybe even pre-dating recent shenanigans. Perhaps LW got a whiff of it and that's why he wasn't discouraging interest from elsewhere. My gut instinct is that they are deeply unconvinced that he is the right person, and had WBA scored the goals they probably deserved to today he might have been out on his arse next week. One thing is for sure, we need more than a Russell Martin tribute act if we're serious about getting out of the division. |
Agree and replacing a manager at this point in a transfer window isn't going to help bring in players that will improve the match day squad

I think that would depend on who the manager was. As an example if we were able to attract John Heitinga would his appointment help bring in players. I know he has ruled himself out of the WBA job, but if Coleman sold the vision, who knows.

It very much depends how ambitious Coleman and the new people are. This month will tell us the answer.
| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Fair point but would we have the money to pay off Williams, pay a new manager the going rate, pay off his employer and sign new players?

Don't pay him off, put him on gardening leave. It's what clubs do now. If he takes another job it's up to us if we want a release fee or just let him go. If he leaves then we stop paying him, it's up to him if he can find a job. We did it with Cooper and eventually he went to Forest and we got a fee. Leicester have done it to Cooper at the moment. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

but given this week's events would another club want to take the risk? We could be left with him for the duration It's all a mess which just seems to be where we are as aclub ever since we were sold in 2016

Three years left on his contract. It would never cost us more than paying up his contract. Can you see Williams going that long without looking for another job, he would be finished.

As opposed to keeping a manager who wants to be somewhere else and has openly disrespected the club. That’s two sloppy performances in a row. The Portsmouth one had shades of Cardiff away last season. Players looked demotivated. Yesterday was better than that but way below our usual standards. I don’t know if he’s lost the players, but they played like he had.

It was muted. Very flat atmosphere. Fans in the ground rarely want to turn against the manager until it’s too far gone. He had pockets of muffled support. I didn’t hear any abuse at all.

Thanks for that Frankly,I think folk are rather bemused by it all. It came suddenly and the goodwill / support for Williams has evaporated .

I’m not against his football. It’s not polished. It’s good in fits and starts and sometimes it lets us down. There’s the outline of a decent playing system there though, which probably won’t be realised until we get one or two in to improve the first team and a couple more to come off the bench without weakening us. I wouldn’t be opposed to his successor playing a similar way. What I am against is our manager begging West Brom to give him a job. I understand ambition but there are ways to go about it. That patronising ‘smoothing over’ statement made it worse. Fans aren’t stupid. I’m far more opposed to that kind of personality managing us than to his kind of football. Swans official have just put a ‘one year of the gaffer’ montage on their social media though, so I think it’s unlikely he’s in imminent danger.

I imagine the Club will carry on as usual in a bid to prevent constructive dismissal ! "Oh Mr Lawyer, the Chairman's statement in the programme was antagonistic and basically they want me out! "Oh no it wasn't Mr Williams, the Club gave a clear message of backing and forward solidarity, and to back it up they've released a 'One Year Of The Boss' footage to mark your year in charge, nothing we can argue is constructive dismissal, Mr Williams" "OK Mr Lawyer, I'll carry on as usual yeah?" "Well just make sure you remember the frank conversation you had with the Board, keep your mouth shut, don't let the players talk you out of delegating coaching sessions, and just win the majority of matches, or you are likely to get legitimately sacked Mr Williams" in my opinion :) [Post edited 5 Jan 19:41]

To clarify to date on 22:16 - Jan 5 with 436 views | Dr_Winston | Much of Williams's output since "The Unpleasantness" has resembled a husband who has been caught cheating and wants to save his marriage. Excessive compliments to players like Grimes and Darling and a general sense of working as hard as he can to salvage things and promise that he's fully committed from here on in. Problem being if he's been caught having a wandering eye once, all anyone can think about is when it'll happen again.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

But he has always been over the top with the love in for our top players. He hasn’t changed in the way he praises them imo. As for the explanation of the West Brom thing… if I hadn’t read about what he has allegedly done, I would have believed him, as imo he has been one of the most open and honest managers we have ever had, when it comes to press conferences. Sometimes to his detriment. I’m still not sure whether I trust the words I’ve heard come from the horses mouth, or some media sources who are nameless and faceless to me. It’s not an easy situation, but for now, I’m with Williams.

This I agree with you on completely. And it’s not just once. He did it a year ago at Notts County, but most of us either didn’t notice or didn’t care because we needed a manager. Hindsight I know, but it’s a complete red flag
