Although I live in Southend I haven’t seen them this season. The people I have spoken to tell me that they are really inconsistent, and lack height. The forward that went to FGR and the centre half they had to sack have really exacerbated the situation. However their weakness is also one of ours. In that we do not score many from corners. Ferguson and Beckwith are both big lads and I would be tempted to play both on Saturday, fitness allowing.
We can beat them but will need to be on our metal as they can turn in a very good performance, like scoring 4 at Solihull.
Travelling up for the game so I hope Dale turn up and graft, if they do I think they will win. [Post edited 17 Oct 12:11]

I have worked in football, rugby league and ballet and non contact injuries should not be happening in professional sport. In simple terms it is usually due to poor screening and lack of adequate strength and conditioning to cope with the load of the sport. The biggest problem with last night is the frustration of knowing that we have players capable of playing sublime football who simply seem to have become robotic and predictable... maybe its time to give them a break from the Platt Lane routine and have a day or two doing something else to freshen them up a bit. They must be as fit now as they will ever be, so doing the same stuff in training, day in day out is hardly adding to their abilities. Change the record Jim, take them for a hike, or a paddle on Ainsdale beach, take the pressure off and get the laughter back into them.
Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results, assuming you want to change the results, is the definition of insanity.. Things need to change when we are at home, that much is clear, so alter the routine, change the mindset, become unpredictable, it can hardly do any harm can it? Dont just be their manager, be their leader........What would Hilly and Flicker have done when they were in their pomp? A daft night out in Manchester, the army assault course, " look after your toy soldier" underpants on the bus??? These are young men and all work and no play makes them dull....Laughter is the best medicine. |

Maybe Jim does have a self aware fun side, now would be a good time to show it publicly.

Just got back from my Rochdale visit. The game was dreadful. Neither side deserved anything from it. When we started to exert some pressure we let he momentum drift away again. Southend didn’t need to wrestle it of us. 500 mile round trip and I will just end up with grief from Southend supporters.
The only saving grace was the company of the good folk in the Comrades Club. Plus I was able to stock up with Smiths pies before it closes for the last time. | | | |

Just don’t think there’s any relevance between comparing Gauge and McNulty and that concentrating on what the new regime do to change the culture off the pitch is more important. We have to trust them to do that.
McNulty normally defends his team, like most managers. Look at how Barnet’s manager reacted to criticism from supporters, they then went on to win six games on the spin.
It’s also ignoring the most recent interview to claim he’s always like it, because he had criticisms last night. | |

We've heard "the scoreboard will take care of itself" recently and "the result will take care of itself" last night from Jim. It won't. The scoreboard MUST be the prime focus above any academic / coaching manual requirements. Southend won us at that aspect of the game, the most important aspect.
Wanting to show off our best under the cameras? The last 5:30 televised Saturday kick off from the COA was v Ebbsfleet last season. We were awful and lost 0-1. What happened yesterday? Go figure, Jim.
Jim is blaming individual player decisions, but they were playing to his script, a script we've seen so many times before, to our disappointment.
The point about injuries is valid, but it's for Jim to sort it out. Other managers have the same issues to deal with.
To be where we are in the table at this stage is great, but to see the most simple faults in our game repeated is not. Valuable points lost at Ebbsfleet and yesterday. We can take the odd glitch. A lot of people where I was stood were less than happy, and rightly so. Apart from 10 minutes in the second half, Dale were uninteresting and ineffectual.
We have been and can be SO much better. That's why we're in the play-off spots. I watched the clock for a period early in the second half. Dale wasted two minutes moving the ball sideways and backward in our defensive third whilst the rest of the team looked on with precious little movement or desire to progress. Not for the first time. We were losing. If your team can't be bothered to try and make a game of it, Jim, we ain't getting the aspired 5,000 regular attendees. How do we encourage friends and acquaintances to watch tippy tappy tripe like that?

I agree with much of your post Sandy - I'd like to run with one of your points if I may, "how do we encourage friends and acquaintances to watch in your words "tippy tappy tripe like that" I've done it a few times over the years and more often than not had my fingers burnt, the blow has been softened in my case because I've always paid my friends entrance fee however, it reminds me of what I've told my builder , he's good at what he does, he's very reasonable but he's unreliable therefore, I'm unable to recommend him to family, friends and acquaintances, in response to your question - You Can't ! they'll be spending their precious free time, hard earned money on and I'll quote "tippy tappy tripe " It won't be Big Jim or the Board that they'll be pissed off with, it'll be you !
There must be 100's of loyal Dale Fan's bursting at the gut to encourage friends and family to attend Dale games and be part of promoting support, increasing the fan base, generating more revenue and improving the playing squad, but for many it's simply not worth the risk ! |  | | |

Feels like we’ve been watching the same defeat for the last 18 months. We concede a sloppy goal and then the other team largely contains us and limits any significant period of pressure. Without looking at stats it feels like the first goal pretty much dictates the subsequent performance and ultimately result.
Key players are out who would help to change this of course, but I still think we’re short somewhere. I can’t remember too many goals we’ve scored in which we’ve broken down a team who’ve had 11 men between us and the goal. |  | | |

We have a more than decent squad and the injury list should be a real chance for the players on the fringe to step up and cement their own place in the starting XI. When these fringe players get their chance they look really off the pace, restricted, frustrated and generally confused as to how to influence the game.
One final example is East he is a magnificent player one of the best in the division when he is driving towards goal in the final 3rd. We are not getting any value when he is almost touching hands with the Centre half on his own 18 yard line.
To finish on a positive I really did think Allarakhia was the one Dale player prepared to actually take on the Southend defenders and was our stand out shining light. We also looked more like Dale with the introduction of Henderson and McBride who sparked a little in the final 3rd.
Anyway its a local Derby in 24 hours time I am really hoping we can take the game by the scruff of the neck and play like we all know we can.
