Money making friendlies for the cowboy hat wearers.
It’s the same dozen countries. Expand the game please.

Impossible mate, it isn’t a world game. That’s the problem.

Of course but I was answering Builthy onnthe expansion.

However, more people watch and play football in Wales than rugby for sure.

The cowboy hat crowd do my swede in, but it’s an issue that’s not confined to Wales and it’s not confined to rugby. I was watching a news programme after the recent Euro final and they cut to a fanzone up in Newcastle Upon Tyne, there were loads wearing them.

It never will be unless they allow other countries in.
The six nations should be at least 2 divisions, then 3 in another 10 years, and eventually the game will develop.
But the existing ones don’t want that, they are scared of losing their hold on the game.

I have builth on ignore so wouldn’t have been aware
More players maybe but in the perception of Wales in sport is undoubtably that of a rugby nation,
We have had sone world renowned great rugby players and team.
Less so in football.
Take the great players in the 58 wirld cup out of the equation and the cupboard is pretty bear

Is it any wonder the four regions are struggling, Club Wales plays almost the same amount of matches in twelve months that the likes of the Ospreys etc., do. Who would want to watch the Ospreys or buy a season ticket when the team is faced with blooding their academy youngsters.

Pay all that money to watch one win and two losses .

I would rather go and watch a local game than this rubbish.
At least you will be around real fans, with passion for the game and not a bunch of stag and hen parties.
Spewing over children and making a holes of them selves.

One of the major reasons that Welsh rugby is dying out.

For years the 6 nations comp decimated the second half of the rugby season but the sport just about survived the great spectacle that the 6 national was/is.

However the ramping up of the nothing more than the money making exercise that is the Autumn internationals has just about finished off grass roots rugby by wrecking the first half of the season as well with so many club games now lost to both Autumn and 6 nation internationals that the season is so disjointed and players finding other things to do on Saturdays that parks games and local lower tier clubs are decimated and struggle to recover player numbers.

All to raise money to pay already well renumerated professionals and of course the Alicadoo's and camp followers on the payroll's of the various national rugby boards.

A few years ago my own local side managed the grand total of 11 games all season due to constant interruptions of international games throughout the season, the club like many others with increasing frequency now no longer exists.

This makes interesting reading, the AB's domination of the Rugby Championship looks over for another season, its a pity that the Lions aren't scheduled to go there until 2029.

That’s because the Swansea RFC I followed doesn’t exist as such .
I have little affiliation with Ospreys as it seems the case with many Swansea people .
Ergo,Wales rugby is different .
I feel more attached to Rugby teams as representing them are players either Welsh or welsh qualified .
Few welsh lads in our football team
Suppose you go with your heart
Nobody has to prove national fervour to anyone on here
Nobody should feel intimidated by those super fans who do enjoy a weekend away on the ale whilst Wales play

The pinnacle of football in Wales is club football for a great many.

However, rugby in Wales places more of an emphasis on international competition. In England, strangely, if say club rugby is far more important. Supporters of Leicester for example may see international rugby as a threat to their players’ safety.

Absolutely bang on the money
It’s fact
Also,Wales rugby team has a higher world wide sporting profile
Try talking to your average Saffa,Kiwi,Aussie about Wales at sport.
It’s also the case the likes of Benny,Barry,Gareth,JPR ,Gerald ,Dr Jack,Tanner and Davey, are still revered world wide .

We have been at the very top of the tree . This has never happened in football

Getting a ticket for rugby internationals or even getting in was tough in the 50s . It was rarely the case with football apart from some ninian peerk fixtures

Go anywhere in the world and take a poll of who knows of any Welsh rugby past or present you would like to name or Gareth Bale. I know who would be known the most.

Maybe, but would that be because of his Spurs / Real Madrid career or his Wales appearances?

This is all very true, but it’s an outsiders perception, it’s not reality.

People in South Africa probably do think rugby is our main sport. People in Wales don’t.

And those rugby legends aren’t revered world wide, in a handful of countries yes. Rugby isn’t revered world wide.

Morning
And neither is football,ie New Zealand .
Those rugby greats I’ve mentioned are and have always representative of wales ,its culture and existence . They transcend the sport. I don’t think Bale did . Giggs a great club man but no great “ welsh” man.
Anyway,good reply

Oh sure, football isn’t the biggest sport in New Zealand, but that’s not the discussion. It is globally and it is in Wales.

There’s a difference between being held in very high esteem in a few countries and being revered globally.

JPR Williams isn’t idolised in the USA, in China, in Brazil for example. He probably is in New Zealand.

I’d bet my life more people in Wales could point out Aaron Ramsey or Ben Davies than Dafydd Jenkins.

More people here could point out Zidane than Dan Carter too.

Anyway. I like rugby and I’ll watch the Autimn internationals if they don’t clash with the Swans

Bluddy good reply that
I have been in Ontario in Wayne Gretzky (The Great One ) and spoke to some chaps who well knew of the welsh era of pre eminent rugby . The likes of JPR etc ,were the reason they started playing the game .
Same applies to many Englishmen

We really are that good

I’m glad we were alive to see it anyway
