Hayes scored twice for Peterborough last night, including one set up by Odoh.

As Nevett been playing for them? On the Biffo's forum, they said Adshead did okay. In terms of our midfield, we are on paper quiet strong in that we have; - East, Gilmour, Barlow, Henry, Allarakhia, McBride, plus Bailey, Dunlop and Mann, also we have Corey Edwards and Oscar kelly coming through our youth team and Adebayo-Rowling can play on the wing. I would like another 2 CD's and a striker.
Released Players on 10:41 - Jul 17 with 6182 views | ChaffRAFC | Think we're still way off in terms of squad building to push for the playoffs. We're desperate for a left sided centre half. I believe we were in for Jamie Stott who recently joined Morecambe from Halifax so I'm hopeful McNulty agrees. We also need a pacy right sided attacker. Allarakhia, McBridge and even Barlow seem more suited to the left hand side while Adebayo-Rowling is more suited to playing wingback. We need someone as direct as Hayes who can chip in with goals. We've lost Sinclair (10 goals), Hayes (7 goals), Keohane (7 goals), and to a lesser extent Mather (2 goals) and I'm not at all convinced that Allarakhia, McBride, Barlow, Henry, Beckwith replace those numbers. A fully fit Devante Rodney will help on that front but that very much remains to be seen, he's already missed our first friendly through injury. I'm also not convinced Mitchell's return will be as good as it was last season, though I hope it is obviously and Henderson will be 40 in January. At this point, I think we're a way off looking even as strong as last season so hopefully much more to come on the recruitment front.

Released Players on 11:12 - Jul 17 with 6135 views | NorthernDale | A good analysis. I agree we need to sign a left sided CD, preferable two CD's (that is why we should consider reapproaching John, who is a left sided CD by trade), I have my doubts about Ferguson, especially when he is injury prone. A right winger would be ideal and I have said another striker is essential, I thought we should have gone for Jolley, who signed for AFC Flyde from Tranmere. There is also Rob Harker who over two seasons with Halifax as played 64 games and scored 17 goals, and is aged 24, which would fit into the Dale's recruitment policy, but the question is why did Halifax let him go. But we must wait for McNulty to decide on who to recruit.

Cameron John found his level last season but can't be relied on to play a full season either so I wouldn't have even offered him a deal in the first place, let alone want him back now. He was also poor at centre back and only really looked good when he was getting forward. There are options out there, there will be a loan market to utilise too for all of those positions. I actually also think we probably need another centre midfielder, an experienced one, maybe not too dissimilar to the Clayton signing in terms of profile. Another forward I think is important too, to be able to change things around. We need a bigger squad this season and we're going to need more options than we have.

Released Players on 12:22 - Jul 17 with 6017 views | samueloneils | The one disaster last season and IMO the difference between reaching the play-offs and not was the absence of a second outright striker. We were unlucky with Rodney missing for almost the whole season, and we had to rely on Mitchell far too much. He is not the sort of striker to worry seasoned defenders too much. Is Rodney fit-missing the first preseason is not a good sign? Even a young inexperienced striker would be a good investment to avoid last season`s experience.

From what I've read Bailey seems generally listed as a midfielder rather than a striker . Incidenrally, does anyone know why final year academy players were preferred to new first year pros in the first friendly squad high seemed a bit strange ?

Bailey isn't a striker. But the first year pros aren't players who can come off the bench 15 times a season or offer a genuine alternative option at first team level at this point in their careers. Youngsters coming in on loan have either had more experience in the first teams at EFL clubs, maybe in cup competitions or they're from much higher standard academies and therefore a higher ability level. We need a bigger squad this season because we get more substitutes. We have a bigger budget and it would be daft not to use it to our benefit.

Released Players on 10:51 - Jul 18 with 5161 views | 49thseason | If we are to target a top 6 or 8 finish we need to score 70 - 80 goals and a similar number of points with a goal difference of around 25. This indicates that we need a more attacking approach than last season. I am sure we are not capable of defending our way into the playoffs, there is always a mistake that costs us a goal, so we have to be on the front foot. As things stand, I cant see enough goals. I dont think we can rely on Rodney to stay injury free and Mitchell misses too many opportunities to score. We need a genuine striker and a winger to supply him. Sometimes it seems that having a former defender as manager sets a defensive agenda that overrides all other considerations. People dont watch football to see meticulous defensive displays, they go to celebrate goals, as many as possible, as often as possible. 14 points would have put us comfortably into the playoffs, 2 single goal losses turned into wins (out of 11) and 4 x 1-1or 0-0 draws turned into wins would have got us there. Another 10 - 15 goals required.....Rodney maybe the man but I think we need another one, just in case....

Keith Hill was a defender... I agree that we need more goals in the side. We have lost goals from Hayes, Sinclair and Keohane for a start.

We did score 69 last season, Bromley in third only scored 4 more. If anything it was the amount of silly goals we conceded that cost us points. Unlike Southgate, I don’t think McNulty is a cautious manager who sticks to a principle that doesn’t suit his players. He’s certainly not defensive in his approach, selections alone illustrate that. The problem is sticking to his preferred style at times. That has been shown not to work, doesn’t consistently get results and frustrates fans. We all know we are better when we mix up our play and with strikers like Mitchell and Rodney we are going to score more getting it into them quickly. The problem, as you say, is replacing the goals we’ve lost.
