Poll: Prediction League ... Continue or have a World Cup Break?

Scunny could be the next in line to fold with many more clubs also on the brink.

It needs to be a priority at Dale to cut cloth as required. No team can claw back losses when they end up being tens of thousands of pounds every week over an extended period of time.

Lower league football structure is broken not helped in anyway by the EFL.

A real worry for us all.

The EFL is the real problem, its structure is entirely biased in favour of the Championship. the representation of clubs is biased and the voting system is biased as is the distribution of funds from TV and other sources. The scandal is that the other 48 clubs are able to do so little about it. A breakaway of the lower 48 is the only solution, maybe the threat of it would be sufficient but until every division has equal voting rights, there will be no change, the rich will get richer.
"The EFL Board of Directors is responsible for providing the organisation's strategic direction". ....

"The Board consists of nine directors, six of whom are divisional representatives elected by member Clubs. The divisional representatives include three directors from Championship Clubs, two from League One Clubs and one from a League Two club. The remaining three directors are independent of Clubs."

Rick Parry
Chairman
One of the UK’s most experienced leaders in football, Rick Parry - Chairman of the EFL Board - served as both chief executive of the Premier League between 1991 and 1997, and Liverpool Football Club between 1997 and 2009.
Vastly experienced, his main contribution to the formation of the Premier League was the introduction of a governance structure which included the formula for the sharing of TV revenues among Clubs. A formula which remained unchanged for 25 years.

Trevor Birch
Chief Executive
Appointed as Chief Executive in January 2021, Trevor Birch has held several prominent roles within football, including Chief Executive at Chelsea, Everton, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Derby County, as well as Chair of Swansea City and most recently, Director of Football Operations at Tottenham Hotspur.
A former professional footballer, Birch started out as an apprentice at Liverpool, aged 16, before going on to represent Shrewsbury Town and Chester as a player.

Debbie Jevans CBE
Senior Independent Non-Executive Director
Debbie Jevans joined the Board of the EFL in 2014, with her addition bringing an independent voice to its decision-making process.
A former professional tennis player, Jevans is on the Board of Sport England and was voted the most influential woman in British Sport in early 2014 by the Guardian. Previously she was Director of Sport for LOCOG - organisers of the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Simon Bazalgette
Independent Non-Executive Director
Considered to be one of the most influential figures in UK sport, Bazalgette has been head of The Jockey Club, the largest commercial group in British horse racing, for more than a decade. Prior to that, he was the founding Chairman of Racecourse Media Group (RMG), which manages the media rights of more than half the racecourses in the UK.
He remains a non-executive director of RMG, as well as the Racecourse Association; Great British Racing the sport’s marketing arm; and Britbet, which manages the pool betting service at 55 British racecourses.
Bazalgette, who is a lifelong Brentford supporter, has considerable experience of working in multi-stakeholder environments, where the ability to build and maintain mutually-beneficial relationships is essential to long-term sustainability and prosperity, such as between the League and its Members.

Club representatives
Steve Kavanagh — Championship — Millwall
Peter Ridsdale - Championship - Preston North End
Neil Bausor - Championship - Middlesbrough
Jez Moxey - League One — Burton Albion
Steven Curwood - League One - Fleetwood Town
John Nixon - League Two — Carlisle United

"All three of the EFL’s divisions saw aggregate club revenues fall in 2020/21. League One clubs were worst affected with aggregate revenues down 22%, compared to a reduction of 12% and 4% in the Championship and League Two respectively.

This decline meant average wages surpassed average revenue among League One clubs for the first time, while this was the case for the fourth consecutive year in the Championship.

With over 90% of Championship clubs operating at a loss in 2020/21, it’s clear that many will need to improve the future balance between their costs and their revenues, encouraged by the EFL’s regulations and clubs’ obligations under the loan schemes initiated in 2020. There now can be no doubt that significant change is required to drive long-term sustainability, without the need for continual owner funding at this level

I think its worse than that 49th and here is why.

What protections have the EFL offered Scunthorpe and Oldham as clubs relegated from the league in 2021/22?

Absolutely none.

That, IMO, is not a sustainable way to run the game as a regulator since they are currently 24th and 20th in the National League principally because the regulator failed whilst they were EFL clubs.

Relegation to the National League only served to crystallise their problems which for different reasons can be summarised as the EFL allowing in bad ownership/leadership making poor decisions and significant financial problems which means the rot sets in.

If SCMP and FFP work in the EFL then how have Scunthorpe amassed such debts, including a loan that the EFL have leant them!

What kind of regulator is the EFL when three of the last four clubs relegated (Southend, Oldham and Scunthorpe) have had to gamble so excessively to stay in the competition it risks the entire existence of the club when things go wrong?

We have always been lucky to cut our cloth accordingly, even when the on-field performances have grated. I remember the Chair of the Trust saying on the radio when Morton House were kicking about that we are one of very few North West clubs never to have been in administration.

And for me that goes to show how lucky we are to have an EFL club in the town and that, as was proven in 2021, to fight tooth and nail to keep it an EFL club.

Because the EFL don't care about Oldham and Scunthorpe any more which is a dreadful stain on their role as supposed regulator.

George Bernard Shaw had it right: "He who can does; he who cannot, teaches." https://www.visittheusa.co.uk/

It doesnt help matters by continually increasing the number of subs named for a game. If we moved back to one sub (ok…i know, that horse has bolted) we could reduce squad sizes.

Take a look at the team picture of the first promotion team in 1969. 15 players…Not enough players in the squad to name a team in 2023.

I can't work out if you're being serious or not.

There’s now a strong rumour that former Notts County chairman Alan Hardy is leading a consortium looking to buy Scunthorpe.
That could be interesting.
