Tonight’s Forum on 16:11 - Feb 18 with 5860 views | TomRAFC | This is from memory, so forgive anything missed out/misunderstood/the bloody length of it. It’s the quickest and least contentious forum I’ve ever been to. It started at half 7 and was done by half 8, including a break and a raffle. Was able to nip up to Bamford bowling club for a few pints after and was pleased to see they have one of the up the dale not for sale flyers on the notice board. The top table was Murray Knight, Simon Gauge, Robbie Stockdale, Andy Kelly, and Jan Wormald. Richard Knight and George Delves were on hand too. I can only recall Simon and Robbie speaking. Simon Gauge opened up with a brief statement. He spoke highly of Robbie Stockdale and the work he’s trying to do in difficult circumstances. Simon focused on the poor level of accounting that had gone on previously at the club. Monthly takings/match day takings for the bars/club shop were nowhere to be found. They estimate that the club is bringing in about £300,000 from the facilities available, and estimate they should be able to raise this to about 1 million pounds in the future. There’s going to be concerts at the stadium and a push to hire out the varying venues within the ground. They estimate this would take us from the lowest 8 in league 2 income-wise up to the top 8 in league 1. He referenced the staffing changes behind the scenes but didn’t go into detail. Stockdale didn’t have too many questions to answer and as a general rule the tone was very supportive. He declined to criticise individual players when asked about the goalkeeping/defensive performances. He attributed games gone wrong to individual mistakes rather than tactical decisions, but was clear that he’s not opposed to rotating the formation. After a while here he felt the current squad was not going to be able to play the 433 formation he originally planned and began to change things from there. He was asked about how it has been managing the club during an attempted takeover and joked that his glass of water was actually vodka. Bringing in players had been a challenge. Simon Gauge added that this was especially due to Morton house suggesting to the EFL that we would soon run out of money. This made transfers tricky, hence the amount of loan signings. He commented on a few players. Clark and Downing were brought in to bring experience and be calming influences. Cashman has not performed to the best of his abilities in training, but the door is open to him if his form picks up. O’Keefe was going to sign for a championship club and be loaned back to us until the end of the season. This didn’t materialise so he has signed a 6 month contract with us, we didn’t pay a fee for him. He was asked about the lack of appearances by youth players. Brierley/Scanlon/Mialkowski played in the bounce game this week but he hasn’t felt it would be beneficial to them or the team to play them at the moment. There was a tongue in cheek question about a contract extension, a nod to the car crash of a contract announcement by our former director. Robbie said he thought there might need to be an upturn in results before that happened. The penny dropped after that and there was a good laugh had in the room. Quick break, the raffle seemed to be selling bloody well! The board were asked how they could criticise the previous accountancy when accounts are audited. Simon reflected that an annual audit and the keeping of monthly/weekly figures are two very different things. I think the word he used was “shocking”. I can’t remember the exact figure the accountancy was costing us (I think he said £200,000). This has all been brought in house now and is being led by Brian Butler. I believe this was the domain of former director Mr Grindrod, who was brought onto the board following a share transfer from our former CEO just before the infamous EGM. Simon made a fantastic commitment to the playing budget. He reported that being a fan owned club, with no one taking money out of the club, that income into the club would be put straight into the playing budget. BBM was released from his contract and did not receive any compensation from the club. There was a question as to whether some of the recent “dearly departed” members of the board had been forthcoming with anything they might know about Morton House’s contact with the club prior to the arrival of the new board. In short, the answer was no, however the club feel they still have a good understanding of what went on. Seems like phone records/emails etc. have been gone over with a fine tooth comb. Simon spoke very highly of the expertise of our non-executive director in these matters. Two members of staff are being brought in to replace Frances (which confirms her departure). One of these people will be focused on increasing revenue for the club by hiring out the facilities we have. The club was asked about it’s commitments to supporting women/diversity within the community. As expected the board have signed up to varying initiatives and the Barrow game will be dedicated in honour of these. Simon reiterated the club’s condemnation of the chants from the Oldham game. It wouldn’t be a proper fans forum without the topic of training facilities. Simon said that at the moment we aren’t able to train on a full size pitch but there have been some very positive conversations with the council/local landowners. This could take 2 years to materialise but was high on their agenda. When asked about a possible return of the goldbond, Simon said it wasn’t the top of their agenda given current circumstances but that they would look into it. There was a rather random question about a rumour that Burnley FC owned our lottery. They don’t. There was also a question about who owned the carpark at the stadium. The club does. The contractor for the pitch had been in the stadium around the time of the postponement. The underlay for the pitch surface had become compacted and an algae had grown in the holes of the drainage mesh. This is being resolved and the pitch should drain ok now. From what was said, the science of maintaining a pitch is a heck of a complicated subject area. Simon seemed very calm about our legal footing and how to take the club forward. There was a detailed question about Village Energy Solutions, which has been well covered in another thread. The question was accompanied with a reminder to the board that the fans will back them 100% which earned a well deserved round of applause. All in all, a very calm and reassuring affair. The commitments to the budget and increasing revenue are big positives. [Post edited 18 Feb 2022 18:25]

It wasn't mentioned. I think someone said on a recent thread that they've emailed the trust about it, so I'd expect an update from Murray in one of the trust newsletters in future.

Tonight’s Forum on 13:34 - Feb 20 with 4353 views | EllDale | Am I the only who’s concerned about the alleged lack of accountancy reporting under the old regime? It should be pretty simple to have a process which records itemised revenue from each match day revenue stream. Basic stuff. What worries me is that we’re encouraging HMRC to investigate other organisations
Tonight’s Forum on 13:39 - Feb 20 with 4337 views | EllDale | Sorry, got broke off in mid thread there. What I was trying to say was that we’re encouraging HMRC to investigate other organisations when the club maybe can’t itself provide accurate information as regards VAT income? I just hope some sort of slush fund wasn’t created from match day income. Or did it all go on sanitiser?

Management accounts that help account for the day to day running were not available. It would appear that we did not know full the costs and income associated with bars and the shop. How the club made the decision it did to cease Goldbond is further discredited with this revelation. Statutory annual accounts are audited and mention had been made vy the auditor in previous years of incomplete record keeping in certain areas. This was questioned at an AGM by a regular poster on here. You would hope that the furlough scheme was operated professionally.

Well given that the acting chairman and Head of finance at the last AGM could not answer how big Bottomleys pay rise was spoke volumes.

You'd think so, but Fylde's owner David Haythornthwaite is a law unto himself and as i've said before, imo he knew exactly what he was doing and who he was employing when taking Bottomley on, and why [Post edited 20 Feb 2022 22:34]
