I can,t disagree with your logic D,Alien and if that was actually playing out on the pitch I could see the sense in it despite the risks involved.
Unfortunately time and again we fanny about with it in dangerous areas until they press us and then we either punt it up to no one in particular or the mistake happens and we pay the price. Secondary to it being pointless is that it slows the tempo of the game allowing the opposition to get organised. We have neither the fluid forwards, or ball winning midfield to play the game you illustrate. It seems obvious to me that to play a Premiership style of play successfully you need players with Premiership skills, otherwise you fail in the attempt.

You certainly need midfielders who're confident enough in their first touch to take the ball in a tight situation. If they're not, they stop looking to find the space needed to receive a pass out of defence. Or sometimes they're confident, and sometimes they're not

What annoyed the hell out of me when BBM was in charge was the ball being moved forward but then coming back again to square one. Moving the ball between the centre-backs to allow those in front to find space (when confident) doesn't bother me so much. The usual outlet is to the wingbacks, and play can be developed from there

Used correctly, it's a perfectly feasible way of starting moves at our level. I'm not sure what you think is an alternative, other than the long punt forward

TVOS will correct me but I don't think we"ve had a decent outball receiver since Peter Vincenti, and before that, Chris O'Grady. Since those days, negativity, caution and slowness have been the watchword. It's up to RS to change that.

Steve Davies and Aaron Wilbraham, but both weren't available often enough through injury
