I think it could be of interest, and not only to Dale fans. That shirt is worth a lot more than the £50 bid that currently stands, one look at Classic Shirts would indicate of what it could fetch amongst collectors. They have a match worn 93/94 shirt in the Manchester store, and that’s priced at £175 I think (my memory may fail me on the exact amount). Also, Bergara did actually make a real difference at Spotland as he was probably the catalyst for us looking towards the top of the league for once in the 80s and his team was very entertaining for the first half of that season.

Rare Rochdale shirt owned by Danny Bergara on 09:34 - Dec 11 with 5257 views | RedHatter | New Dale home shirt from the 1987 - 88 season has been added. Please see the link below; http://ebay.us/MR6EdU?c Rochdale (All In One) home shirt 1987 - 88 season. This is a rare Rochdale home shirt from the 1987 - 88 season, which has kindly been donated by the Bergara family to the Stockport County Supporter's Co-operative. The long sleeved shirt was owned by Danny Bergara, who managed Rochdale for seven months from August 1988 to March 1989. Manufactured by Umbro, sponsored by All In One Garden Centre, with the number 5 on the back in felt. This shirt is a large size. The condition is good, but some of the stitching at the bottom of the shirt has come loose and there is slight damage / wear on one of the sleeves (see photo). We would welcome bids for this special shirt.

That brings back some bad memories, although I think the sleeves have stretched somewhat from being worn by John Bramhall for most of the season.

Think my blue one is still hung up in the bar framed, or it certainly was. Will have to get it back at some stage as was only a loan about 10 years ago 😀

£175 sounds about right but it's worth noting what a huge rip-off CFS tends to be. I managed to get one of those 93/94 shirts in the same batch that CFS picked them up, as well as a 94/95 away shirt for about £120 the pair. Spat my coffee out on my screen when I saw them go up on their site at £175 each a few weeks later.

And for what it's worth, I'd wager the two being sold on this thread are far more rare.

Rare Rochdale shirt owned by Danny Bergara on 10:53 - Dec 13 with 4636 views | RedHatter | The white Rochdale (All In One) home shirt 1987 - 88 season is now up to £154 and the yellow Rochdale (All In One) away shirt 1988 - 89 season is on £225! Will be interesting to see the final prices, many thanks for your support. The Stockport County Supporters Co-operative are also auctioning the yellow flecked away shirt that Danny wore, when leading County out at Wembley vs Peterborough. That shirt is now on £500! Definitely a strong interest from fans of both clubs and any shirts pre-90's / early 90's tend to be very much sought after.

I wonder if the person winning this one pulls out/cancels order like they have with the other shirt. Makes you wonder why someone would do that… 🤔

Or if there was no reserve on it, another way of artificially creating a reserve on it? Confess to not having looked into it though - there may already be a reserve on it.

Stockport doing things that aren't allowed! Who knew? So apt it's on a thread about Bergara! Tapping up tvvats. And don't get me started on the players they took.

I was the next highest bidder and was contacted offering me the shirt. I’ve not bothered on principle!

Sounds like shill bidding if you were quickly offered the shirt as a second chance. It'll probably be relisted shortly, maybe as a BIN for around the same price the auction was bumped up to. Strictly against Ebay policy (and probably illegal) but. They really don't give a toss as long as they get their cut.
Rare Rochdale shirt owned by Danny Bergara on 09:27 - Dec 21 with 3114 views | RedHatter | I've been avoiding commenting on here, because I wasn't looking to get drawn into an argument with Rochdale fans and didn't feel it was in the right spirit. I welcome the opportunity to allow the County Supporters Co-operative to post on a Rochdale message board and thought these rare Rochdale shirts would be of real interest to you, but I do feel that I need to address some of the comments on here which are completely inaccurate and misrepresentative. The Stockport County Supporters Co-op listed a Rochdale (All In One) away shirt 1988 - 89 season, with a reserve price of £50 for a period of 10 days. There was a series of early bids and the price rose to £220. A day or two later there was another bid, for £225. I then received a message a few days later explaining that the bidder had lost her job and no longer felt she could continue, so I agreed to withdraw her bid. eBay then lowered the price of the shirt back to £220 to reflect the next highest bid. I then wrote to another bidder, which I believe to be rochedale and you chose to withdraw, which is your right. As soon as your bid is withdrawn eBay dropped the price to the next highest bidder. The price then remained around £220 right up until the last minute of the auction, where there was a short bidding war, taking the winning price to £256. Rochedale made this comment - "The guy who cancelled his winning bid for the away shirt made 7 bids including winning bid. Looks like bidding up to me." There were 8 bids on 9th December from the same bidder. This is because another bidder had placed a bid of £170. eBay doesn't post the high bid of £170, the system automatically keeps the high bidder in the lead, until they are outbid. The pattern was £52, £55, £61, £73, £85, £101, £113, £150, until the second bidder took the lead with a bid of £175. The only people to bid on these shirts are Rochdale fans, which I can tell from most of the user names. Any suggestion that we have looked to inflate the prices artificially is completely incorrect and unfair. We are a Supporters Co-operative and we are certainly not looking to rip off fans from another club.

Thanks for that. To be clear though…. I never received a message off you, just a message from eBay once the auction had ended… Congratulations! You are now the highest bidder.
