Macauley Bonne 07:32 - Sep 23 with 14068 viewsdmm

Bonne is racking up some impressive stats for Ipswich https://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich-town/itfc-striker-bonne-tops-league-one-sta Nonetheless, I don't think we'd want to recall him in January unless there's some kind of striker crisis.

It will depend on which league we and the TBs but it will be interesting to see where he's playing next season.

Oi - I shared the link before Steve did. Some people are so ungrateful!

Another goal tonight, his confidence must be sky high.

He's got to stay there for the season. If he is L1 top scorer over a season, he'll be a man in demand either with us or elsewhere. Unless Charlie gets a long term er, he'll still be above Bonne and he can't be bought back unless he will be given significant game time.

Yes but will he be available for QPR if we make the playoffs?

Connor Washington also scored a few goals in Div 1.

Washington scored 11 in 36 last season, currently 3 in 13 odd, so 1 in 4 odd, not first choice + not rated by Charlton fans.

Bonne, by comparison has scored 11 in 14, is first choice and is rated very highly by Ipswich fans.

One cost £ 3m odd / £ 15k per week and got 90 odd starts with us, the other maybe half that, £ 7.5k per week and 10 odd starts?

Washington is a bog standard League 1 player and is 30 years old at the end of the season... Bonne has scored more goals in the pro ranks and is only 26.
CW's biggest flaw tho imho was his inability to link up with other strikers when 2 were selected up front. The jury is still out for Mac Bonne on that front?

Bonne imo would relish running off Dykes current knock-downs and Albert's quick + incisive passing.

With Chair beginning to pass the ball quicker, and a fully fit Willock + SJ now in the team, I think Bonne would be a very different player if recalled in January as the supply line is now there for a player who plays off the shoulder of the centre-half / last man.

Hope I'm right on Bonne, as not sure Gray will get to the level we need and think Charlie's best days could be well behind him, althou hope I'm wrong on both those counts.

I live in Hampshire so a few weeks ago I went to the pompy v ipswich game mainly to see bonne and he didn't disappoint and had a big say in Ipswich's 0-4 victory and can tell you that the Ipswich fans absolutely love him they were chanting his name throughout the 90 minutes "Macauley bonne Hes one of our own " will he stay with Rs... time will tell

He is enjoying himself so much as his hometown club, at present, he probably won't be happy to return and play a bit part role.

Unless his fortunes change during this loan it's going to be a problem. He currently has a better scoring ratio than when we bought him, albeit in a lower division than the 11 in 33 in The Championship for a relegated Charlton. He will have a year left on his contract if he returns in June, probably with a year's option as well. His value may have gone up.

Ipswich will want him to stay but will they want to pay our valuation?

We've had worse problems!

A tractorboy friend of mine suggested Ipswich may well make a move to buy him this January. Their owners are not short of a bob or two.

It will be interesting to see what our valuation is but we can be certain it'll be significantly higher than the £1-2m we shelled out for him in the summer of 2020. If Ipswich meet our valuation, I think all parties would be pretty happy.
