England v Andorra 16:12 - Sep 5 with 7516 views | TGRRRSSS | Obviously a general case of how many and how quickly England get ahead, I always find a certain fascination with the games with Andorra, Liechtenstein, San Marino etc. Mainly wondering what standard is relative to them in terms of whether any of there players would be able to play League football in England, or National league etc. 6-0 to England wholesale changes seemingly.

Live on ITV or ITV Hub if you are in the UK, hesgoal.com usually anywhere else though why anyone would want to watch such a pointless International "exercise" is beyond me. An enormous waste of everyone's time, such a mis-match. I get that little nations won't improve unless they play the "big" teams, but Andorra is hardly ever going to compete purely and simply because of the size of their nation. Watching Southgate's England is dull enough at the best of times, but 5 defenders and a goalkeeper pointless against this lot. Would be a hell of a lot more fun if they played with two defenders and no goalie..

Very average performance against moderate opposition. Looking for Rob Dickie to score one with a storming run from the back. Maybe a year or two early.

Yes he has, but his team is so boring to watch. Two defensive midfielders against Scotland was embarrassing as is five defenders tonight. Having to go to the "big guns" (Kane and Grealish) against this lot is shameful.

Not sure I agree on this one. Tonight was simply about getting the job done. They would have won 1-0 2-0 without the subs. Getting minutes into Kane, Grealish and Mount is no bad thing before Wednesday. People forget how difficult it is to play against a team that sets up with everyone behind the ball. It's not as easy as it looks and as uninspiring as you and others found it, it was about being patient and getting the job done. They did. That's all they can do.

Totally agree, Southgate is still very much the safe option and we will never win a tournament under him as he will never take the selection risks and has his favourites such as the mediocre Mount and too often chooses players out of position. Reece James was dire, no idea how he gets selected.

We've come far closer to winning a tournament under him than any other manager in over 50 years. England played a reserve team today and won pretty easily, job done, win on Wednesday and they are pretty much qualified with 5 games to spare I quite like Mount, although he didn't have a very good Euros. For all the complaints about him he got 2 assists the other night, won the penalty today, he's a young player with lots to improve on but he's better than mediocre.

England v Andorra on 20:51 - Sep 5 with 3840 views | BazzaInTheLoft | His unprecedented 66% win rate and unprecedented multiple tournament performances is all I care about. These are conveniently ignored for some reason. I’ve never even heard the media bring it up. I don’t think attacks about a draw with Scotland 7 games ago and ‘boring football ™︑ cut it as a response to those facts to be honest. I think if Southgate had a media personality like Ian Holloway or Terry Venables and he wasn’t forced to function in the BLM era things would be very different. Neither of those things he can do anything about incidentally. It’s sad, and it’s disheartening knowing that Southgate is only a bad run away from the sack despite his immense record. This is the best England team since 1966, they're young and only going to get better. All my life the other teams were always technically better than England. Not any more, no-one wants to play them these days!

I'm one of the ones that is unconvinced about Southgate. I'd have a decent 'win rate' managing England against most of the cannon-fodder they play these days. Truth is he was a bit lucky (Denmark game excepted) in the then woeful in the Euros. The final was unforgiveable: 1. Didn't change things when Italy were swarming over us like a rash 1-0 up. 2. Bringing on two subs at the end when pretty much their first touches were taking 'winner takes all' penalty shoot out. 3. Giving/letting an international and junior rookie (Saka) the responsibility of taking the 5th penalty. Maybe i'm wrong and he's a visionary and will lead us to world cup glory. Hope so.

Southgate bottled it against Croatia at the World Cup and again against Italy this summer. He is miles behind Ramsey, Robson and Venables IMO. As usual England will cruise through the qualifying but fall short at the finals when a better manager will out think and be braver than him.

The last dozen preceding managers before him played the same level of cannon fodder. We’ve had the same qualifying method since home championship qualifying ended in the 80s. I suppose you could argue that there weren’t so many sides to play until the breakup of the USSR and Balkanisation but that all took place before 2000z only Montenegro, Gibraltar, and Kosovo added since then. Premier managers like Capello and Goran Erikkson couldn’t hit 66% and they were playing exactly the same teams. The other things are opinions and subjective. As someone else has pointed out, a couple of pens difference and we’d be holding the Euro Cup. He may not be WC winning visionary, but who is? [Post edited 5 Sep 2021 22:11]

This is NOTHING to do with Southgate's personality - I liked his sensible, considered, intelligent approach as a player and as a person, so stop presuming you know the reasons why I dislike England under him. A massive positive about Southgate is his reliance on youth; it is refreshing to see and is more progressive than any other manager before him. He is obviously a scholar of the game and his approach is technically the correct one in a modern game - don't concede and you'll win more often than not. His results are also impressive, especially at Major Tournaments although I will still argue that the World Cup of 2018 was a case of England the flat track bullies - we beat the lesser teams, but came up short in the end. This years' Euros was a particularly good set of results and we were there on merit as technically the second best team in the tournament up to the final. BUT, my God, it is boring. The youthful, attacking options England has is impressive, but he was reluctant to let it run loose. Scotland at the Euros was a particularly low point for me. Whatever way you dress it up, it was two defensive midfielders at home to Scotland. A crap game, a crap performance and really, really boring. There is no "Trademark" around that phrase; the word describes what I felt watching that crap; I was bored because it WAS boring. I don't need a trademark to tell me what I felt or did not feel - I know boredom watching football when I see it. So, you don't agree - fair play; I can't tell you that you are wrong as much as you shouldn't try to tell me I am wrong; these are opinions, you are welcome to yours and good luck to you. Tonight's game was crap until Grealish, Mount and Kane came on. Not a fan of Mount, but tonight was probably the best I've seen of him in an England shirt. Without them, it was an embarrassing performance - as others have said, I do not know what dirt Reece James must have on Southgate to be part of our national team, but it must be good. Basically, that was our reserve team and let's hope that they all stay there in reserve...
