Unfortunately , pace bowling places massive stresses on the human frame, knees and lower back and shoulders are subjected to huge forces, some people simply do not stand up to these stresses over prolonged periods, Back in the day, the Statham, Trueman and latterly Anderson bowled 100s of overs in county cricket in addition to their stints for England, Today's bowlers manage far fewer overs in shorter stints over far fewer games which you would think would protect their bodies but the lack of frequent and lengthy bowling spells may actually be the source of many of their problems

I think this was caused by giving him way too many overs in the Ashes in 2019, just after a world cup. He then suffered the stress fracture in south africa 2 winters ago and has not recovered.
Hopefully he can recover but if he limits himself to become a T20 specialist then he has picked the most lucrative format.
He may want to persuade a couple of the current england cricket team to join him on the T20 circuit and give up the red ball cricket - step forward messrs. Burns, Lawrence and Buttler please. |  | | |

As you quite rightly say their bodies do not become conditioned to the strain of bowling and I suppose it is a fine balance with the good old 'workload management'. A lot of the fastest bowlers in the country have suffered from serious injury such as Archer, Wood, Stone and youngsters such as Brookes. Former country seamer Steffan Jones has written at length about the development work that younger fast bowlers should be doing in order to prepare their bodies for the riggers of fast bowling. | | | |
