If these three for next season (Eoghan O’Connell, Jimmy Keohane, Matthew Lund) the squad will have a chance for a top 3 place.

Also a few new additions aswell.......

My all time favourite Dale player Mr Lyndon Symmonds

This couple wouldn’t have been the top two in my list of out of contract players to re-sign but hey ho it’s a start. Some progress at least and signs of life behind the scenes.

Don’t mind Lynch re-signing. Performances improved when he replaced Bazunu but that wasn’t difficult. We still need to sign a solid no.1.

I bet Dooley couldn’t believe his luck when we offered him a contract. Can’t believe it’s taken him this long to snap their hands off.

Pleased about Lynch. Dooley has had a few very good games (see Plymouth and Wigan away last year, albeit he came on when we were already in control), but the trouble is I can count those games on a few fingers. He’s not the worst option as a squad player.

On the excellent latest podcast interview, did the director not imply that some of the out of contract players were dragging their feet over signing new contracts or did I misunderstand what they said.

Totally different scenario from 2 weeks ago with the introduction of new Directors. Will this perhaps come into the calculations of the agents of the players who have been offered new contracts.

Back on 19 May, BBM made the argument that:

"To the outside world, there will always be natural leaders and players who have a perceived influence on the team and club, but there are also people who go under the radar in terms of how much influence they have on the squad. Jay Lynch, Stephen Dooley and Matty Done definitely fall into that category. They have a huge role to play in terms of how they’ve understood what the club is about, helped our younger players but also, in the end, produced their best possible performances for the club. I think, in terms of where we want to take the squad, it’s going to end up being a very young squad, and we need those senior players of special qualities to guide those players through, and those guys are a key part of that. I can’t emphasise enough how much those guys are valued by fellow members of the squad."

Which raises the question "What's the Matty Done situation?"

The manager also referred to another group of three players:

"Eoghan O’Connell, Jimmy Keohane and Matthew Lund are obviously players who have attracted a lot of attention over the season. Our focus at the moment is to do everything possible to try and convince them to stay with us, whilst understanding that those guys will have to factor in a lot things before making that decision. We will respect whatever decision they come to because we value them immensely as people."

It seems these three are yet to be convinced to re-sign. A case of offers on the table, but the players looking for better deals, from Dale or other clubs, before the end of the month?

I wonder whether the recent changes in the board of directors will, a month later, lead BBM to alter his strategy.

I hope Dooley is on a much reduced salary than his existing League One payout!

There must be better options out there......remember the new Yorkshire Director is proper tight with money as you would expect...I hope he has had a say in this deal.

Dooley needs to "man up" this season and not be a passenger.

BBM says it all, "It`s going to be a very young squad and we need those senior players (Lynch, Done and Dooley, amongst others presumably) to guide the young players through. So I`d say just about all the young lads who they`ve kept on will be in the side or on the bench come early August.
