ESL team fines..... 11:45 - Jun 10 with 1450 viewselectricblue

It seems that the english 6 clubs who joined the ESL and then back tracked have been fined a total of £22m between them.

Now that money should be equally devided between the 72 league clubs to a tune of £300k pr club....

It is money that will go a long way in helping clubs to survive...

Stripulations like not to be used n transfer deals etc..

They will all appeal, their lawyers will run rings around the FA who will then scurry off into the rat hole they came out from and it will all be forgotten.

I dont think they will contest the fine as doing so will cause more supporter vs club grief all over again......

Monetary penalties for the elite clubs are completely meaningless. If there is to be any punishment at all, it needs to involve a ban from the major European club competitions for 5 seasons or transfer embargos.

FIFA/UEFA need to show some courage if they are serious about dealing with these clubs as they say they are. Then hold on for a rough ride, because the clubs involved won't take the medicine without a fight.

According to the BBC report its not a fine...its a goodwill payment they have agreed to pay.

Without knowing the details of Premier league regulations its difficult to see what they could be fined for.

Any regulation preventing clubs from seeking a better deal as part of a different competition would seem to be creating a monopoly.

Can't agree with that

In a rather different scenario, supposing Bottomley & Co had tried to enter Dale into a European Silly League for elite lower division clubs

The EFL subsequently punishing Dale by say, demoting us would punish only the fans

It's the owners/directors who should be fined in person, not the team or fans. Of course, that's not going to happen

If they get banned from European club competitions for 5 years, they may as well start their own European club competition to keep some money coming in.

I believe the deterrent going forward is a lot stronger but I would have gone for a points deduction for a season within the champions league groups because you need these clubs in order to provide the stratospheric TV revenues but a points deduction would/should keep the trophy they crave from them.

If Man City do make it through then Guardiola's team selection will undoubtedly ensure they won't win it. He's got UEFA's back.
