According to the local paper Oxford's wage bill for 2019/20 was £3m, which they claimed was mid-table for league 1. I find this hard to believe given the scale of their losses. They were opposed to the salary cap because it stops investors pumping money into clubs. |  | | |

Are these salary caps for playing staff, players or the club as a whole?
According to our accounts we spent £3.5M last two seasons but that seems to include 133 staff in total. We have a total of 42 playing staff which i assume is a portion of that £3,5m

Bigger teams can also employ more and more expensive coaches etc. They could also pay young player a lot of money, which would not count towards the cap. |  | | |

All players signed before the vote that are on more than the average of the cap will be classed as the average wage. So all clubs will 'benefit' from this but more so the clubs that have done lots of early business. I think it's a process that makes sense. Clubs have contracts they can't break legally so it can't be seen as breaking the rules. However in a couple of years time when the majority of contracts lapse we should see the real impact of the new rules. | |

More importantly how will a club that has been promoted to the Championship with a wage bill of £2.5m have any chance of surviving in a league with no caps and the biggest clubs having wage bills of £100m. There will need to be a bounty payment or something | | | |

For players under contract their wages will be classed, for cap purposes as being that of the average of the league. Obviously this exemption is no longer applicable when their contract expires. I suspect most contracts will have clauses reducing wages in the event of relegation.
As others have said it will take a while for the cap to take effect and there will be ways or legally/illegally working the cap. In principle it is a good idea, although it will probably cause some wage deflation in the lower leagues. Some might argue that this is needed, although not the PFA! | | | |

I also think clubs doomed to be relegated will be offering contract extensions before the end of the season in order to make use of the relegation cap rule. | |
