Released List 2020 on 20:27 - May 26 by 442Dale | Good question. It shows we got lucky really with hindsight as there’s a good chance he wouldn’t have attracted any offers at all when clubs at all levels are reassessing their business. A guess? 300k. |
Was thinking the same. Yes, we got lucky (in the timing of the deal) But the luckiest person was Luke himself. It's not unreasonable to think that at his age, clubs in higher divisions simply wouldn't take the risk at any price in the short term, especially if there's a requirement (either actual or potential) for them to have to utilise their own up and coming youth players In completing the move when he did, his income in the short-to-medium term is probably far greater than he might expect otherwise - and good luck to him, he deserves it, given it won't be in the excessive bracket that needs to be reined back [Post edited 26 May 2020 20:49]

Released List 2020 on 20:12 - May 26 by Thacks_Rabbits | Can’t see us investing a penny on a player when the market is going to be saturated with footballers desperate for a club. Think we will be playing hardball with any player out of contract and anyone we intend to sign. Lots of decent players out there who will be willing to take pay cuts to have a job! |
To bid north of £175k for him January was uncharted waters for us, so, I agree, we probably won’t see him signing for us in the near future.

I can honestly see wages dropping half for pro players and the leagues being very much like the “Journeyman” years of the late 80’s, admittedly on higher wages. Of course some clubs will take advantage with chairman able to fund the clubs in question, whilst the likes of us, Oldham, Blackpool, Crewe, Port Vale etc all revert to what we had to do to survive, I am not against that tbh. I can really see us being back in l2, living within our means and playing sides of similar means, just a shame York, Halifax, Scarborough, Darlington etc have gone, some good days and away trips. Caught part of an interview on talkcrap earlier fitz and a Scottish championship team have released 17 players including the captain, not sure which club, but not great.

It was Dunfermline. And yes, there are already those clubs that get big gates and lots of sponsorship already looking to exploit this situation. Clubs such as ourselves will suffer as always.

Released List 2020 on 21:31 - May 26 with 4767 views | ncfc_chalky | Neil Ardley has stated that any player that wants to negotiate a new contract with Notts will have to accept a 35-40% pay cut,I'm not sure how many will want to resign but there's going to be a flooded market with players that's been released from higher leagues to compete with out there

If every club, prem down, reduce squad size by 5, effectively Notts and co will have players of l2 plus level, and wages dramatically down from what players are used to. I think the only way Hendo is staying here now, is if he wants to. We won’t be able to compete on wages and contract, the same applies to camps. Calvin sadly I can see being offered a new deal, albeit on maybe £800 a week!

It’s 18 months since he scored. He’s our no. 9 There can be no way he gets a new contract.

One thing that could play in our favour there though is the saturated market. If I am the manager/owner of one of the clubs that aren't expecting to suffer from this financially, I'm probably looking to bring in players with potential to improve and progress with the club rather than handing out big wages to a player who is only likely to be of the required level for one, maybe two seasons. Only time will tell with these things I suppose, but as people have pointed out, there are going to be a lot of players looking for clubs - I wouldn't be surprised if the clubs that could afford Hendo would no longer see him as a preferred option when there are more players realistically available to them.

I agree to a degree ATP,I just think with his consistency and goals scored in what's been a poor team at times will make Hendo an attractive signing to nearly every team in league 1 at least as hes pretty much nailed on to score you goals
Released List 2020 on 12:52 - May 27 with 4331 views | boromat | Hendo seems to be settled in terms of where he's living etc. If he doesn't stay where would he go that doesn't mean upping sticks? I can only think of Salford maybe, it would be a drop in League but they would potentially offer a longer deal. If the new salary caps came in though that would probably rule that out. Bradford is probably a similar situation and maybe Bolton. If he wants League One football potentially Blackpool or Fleetwood. Can't imagine Barnsley wanting him. I think I'm trying to talk myself into thinking he's staying

He’s been a good defender & a good header of the ball (ok not in the net) but we are woeful at defending corners & if Josh goes, Conrad back? Better the devil you know??

I think O'Connell and McShane are fine as a central pairing , no need to complicate things by trying to find a role for a centre forward in defence. However.... Keith Hicks is 65, 66 in August, according to Wiki, that football in the community job is something Calvin might be good at?

Released List 2020 on 10:10 - May 30 with 3153 views | fitzochris | In January, BBM had a very definite plan for the 20/21 season which involved investing in certain players (CJ Hamilton) and letting others go to make room for free transfer and loans. By the end of March that all had to go out of the window, so who knows what Plan B currently is. It may involve holding on to players that were deemed surplus just a few months ago.

Absolutely. Managers who're able to show a significant degree of flexibility in their thinking and ability to adapt to the new footballing abnormal will themselves be at a premium I'd like to think (and there is some evidence for this) that BBM falls into that category, in addition to not being contracted on a huge salary which, if those managers who are insist on retaining it, might further distance themselves not just from fans but from the players they're dealing with who might well have had to take a significant drop in income
