Songs you turn off when it comes on the radio and why on 20:56 - Mar 21 by DannyPaddox
I love the records the bloke plays on a Sunday Afternoon on 6music but Elbow have me immediately hitting the mute, or triggering a frantic game of hunt the remote. The voice is the main thing, part Peter Gabriel, part Morrissey, part Hovis. Three things I can all stomach in reasonable quantities but all mixed in a bucket with an egg on top - not for me.
But the one that does it for me right now. Fortunately there’s a bit of an intro which gives me a fighting chance of sweet silence before the vocal kicks in. And I’m talking dropping everything I’m doing - usually in the kitchen to literally fly into the adjoining living room, Lev Yashin-like, crashing length first onto the sofa, hand outstretched - radio is the far side - and slamming the thing off is Mary Tempest. I haven’t got the name right. Rap poet is a fair description. I feel mean about this. The arrangements are pretty good and some of her lyrics are beautiful and heart-felt but her voice just renders it all as a continuous repetition of its not fair, it’s not fair. She’s probably right it isn’t fair but what can I do? By this stage it’s an urgent involuntary reaction.
You mean Kate Tempest.
Probably better to read her poetry rather than listen to it being performed (Sic!).

There is no such thing as bad music, even the Portsmouth Sinfonia, there is just music that isn't your personal taste.
I used to believe that Mick until the last 10 years of whingey whiney popular nonsense. Theres something about the particular whiney pitch and whiney tone and whiney pacing that sets off an unpleasant reaction in my brain

Budapest - George Ezra, i'd rather shit in my hands and clap than listen to that
Another Love - Tom Odell, good looking young lad singing about losing the love of his life at around 19, whilst there are a queue of women on their knees waiting to nosh the whiny little tvvat.
Loads of good mentions already that i 100% concur with but these are 2 fairly recent Heart FM staple tracks that boil my piss

Anything after 1983. ‘Cause it’s all f ucking shite.
That's a very negative approach. There's so much music released and, although a lot of it doesn't appeal (f ucking shite, if you prefer) there are gems around.
Q magazine just did best of the decade 2010-2019 with 82 tracks. A few I knew already, some I've now heard a few times and quite like and some (mostly rap and hip-hop) which I don't like at all.
Just keep an open mind.

I the 90s I listened to music radio a fair bit, but the music of Maria Carey Whitney Houston Celine Dion would have me reaching for the knob(on the radio) Nowadays, most current stuff on the radio sounds crap to me, so its talk radio and Spotify for me now.
