January 2020 transfers on 13:50 - Jan 8 with 4064 views | kiwidale | The statement from David Bottomley about the United money only lasting 3 months seems disingenuous. It might be true if we had no other income ever again but we have several income streams that are ongoing. The United money was an unexpected bonus coupled with other extraordinary income i.e. transfer money in will cover us for at least this season, if it only lasts for 3 months we better start flogging the silverware now. Then again I could be wrong Nigeria Mark will know. [Post edited 8 Jan 2020 15:16]

Yes, it's a very misleading comment and one that he repeated on television just prior to the Newcastle game kicking off. Of course he is right, it probably does require 300K/ month to run the Club but the annual consolidation/television payment is approx £1.5million and then we have revenue through season tickets/match day gate takings, probably over £1million. There are also numerous other money streams like Sponsorship/ hospitality/ catering/ bar takings/ lottery etc. So a big chunk of that 300K / month is already covered but obviously not all of it and that's why the Club have operated on a manageable annual loss. The way that the CEO talks about the United/ Newcastle money wrongly indicates that without that money there is no other income and the Club would probably fold, that's how some people interpret his comments and they are very misleading as well as being a bit disingenuous . The fact is it's bonus money that wasn't expected, just like making money from selling players. It shows the importance of constantly keeping the first team strong, you often reap what you sow and have a better chance of progressing in cup competitions etc. We've generated an awful lot of extra income over the last 12 months including a considerable sum from FA cup prize money and in particular bonus television payments over the last month or so.

Not being business savvy I wonder what effect corporation tax comes into the thinking of the board? I am aware that it is not always advisable for a business to maximise profit at all costs as this would result in a larger payment being made to HMRC. IF (a big IF) the revenue these unexpected sources (cup games, TV money player sales) has moved us into profit wouldn't it be advisable to re-invest this money into the business (ground improvements, purchase of assets etc) rather than to hand over to the HMRC ?

January 2020 transfers on 16:23 - Jan 8 with 3761 views | jonahwhereru | One bit of additional income that we should not loose sight of is the funds from the sale of the academy lad to Manchester United that BBM mentioned in an interview a few weeks back. I don’t know his age and therefore if the compensation is in the 240k region. We will of course need to wait until another set of accounts are published before for the full detail. It will still be money generated via the academy which is starting to run up very nicely what with Allen and Cannon having added to it, as well as Adshead.

January 2020 transfers on 19:36 - Jan 10 with 2746 views | jonahwhereru | The window is certainly warming up at the bottom of L1. Bolton have recruited a defender today and Lincoln have gone in big and signed 4 today. Wimbledon and MK have both made signings. I am confident with a reasonably injury free squad we can remain out of relegation, but each signing by the others makes me nervous.

Factually he is probably correct but as is pointed out by yourself and below it doesn't mean we will have no money in 3 months as we have other income via normal business. In fairness to him he may not have been imply the above interpretation but simply putting this exceptional income into context. I don't know him so couldn't comment on what he was or wasn't trying to imply

Yeah he's obviously just trying to put that amount of money into the context of running a football club. He's highlighting that it's not as much money to the club as it might once have been. In real terms though this is an on top additional income.

Let's hope he uses the same context when valueing our young star players. [Post edited 13 Jan 2020 15:18]
