I can't wait to see how our pretty useless stewards handle this one. Potential for chaos

Sunderland fans to be in the home stands. on 01:28 - Mar 15 by D_Alien

Thinking about the above posts from Daley_Lama & Toffeemanc, and with the Willbutts stand specifically designed to accommodate rival fans, wouldn't the more sensible and financially advantageous solution be to put Sunderland fans in the Pearl St plus half of Willbutts on that side, and put Daley Pearl St ST holders + ticketed seats in the other half of Willbutts on the Sandy Lane side?

That way, both sets of fans will feel they're together and not trying to compete across each other, which could lead to clashes

I'd expect two minutes discussion with the Trust might've sorted this out. Wouldn't it?

I think the Sandy is probably the most easily containable, although not sure about access to toilet facilities.

It is a tough call.

Dalien's suggestion has a great deal of merit but then home fans are denied access to Studds, which is almost medicinal at half time, given the past 2 seasons of on-field dross.

Poll: What is it to be then?

It's interesting to find out there's 1200 season ticket holders in the Pearl Street (obv many kids) and 570 on the Sandy Lane (obv fewer kids). I'd have thought the safest and more profitable thing to do would be give the Sunderland fans the Sandy Lane. Also those extra 500 voices all behind the goal would create a fantastic atmosphere.

Just to add to the reasons for putting Sunderland fans in the Sandy.
The Pearl Street isn't designed for segregated seating. The Willbutts stand has sections where walls can be put up to keep fans separate. The Pearl street has a pub with doors at both ends and large walkway at the bottom. I also assume the Sunderland fans would be given the Family block, which involves them passing home fans when leaving at full time - whilst it's unlikely there'd be problems, we'd need more police and more stewards, especially with the current pitch invading nonsense.

If Sunderland fans had the Sandy there are no segregation issues (There are not 1200 spare places in the Sandy for Pearl Street fans), no seats - so struggle with making sure fans actually sit in their seats (something we seem to struggle with for some reason). The Sunderland fans can leave via the Willbutts side exit, which is closest to their coaches, making it easier to police. I suspect it'd be much cheaper doing it this way and they'd get more than 500 extra tickets and overall we'd have a higher attendance. I'd love to know the reasons this isn't being done. I can only assume it's some sort of tradition and would upset a very few people, probably fewer people than would be concerned the family designated stand - which isn't suitable for segregation - is being segregated. I'm sure if you ask around there'll be a few people with kids who might give that game a miss.

Sad fact is there will be more people from the northeast in the ground then Rochdale folk. It isn’t the boards fault no one in the town is interested in the team. Give the Sunderland fans the sandy. Then there will be no scrapping in the WMG and no potential for trouble or a line of stewards/cops separating fans.

Sunderland fans to be in the home stands. on 21:32 - Mar 14 by judd

Well as part of the safety concerns, are both sets of supporters leaving the ground at the same time?

What if Dale have pissed on Sunderlands chips and their fans turn feral?

It was bad enough being close to the Bradford violence. It'll potentially be a lot worse with away fans already in the Pearl Street end.

I notice that all relevant safety officers have been consulted . Can their recommendations not be made public?

If it has been planned well in advance I assumed the 500 tickets would be family tickets i.e 1 adult with at least 1 kid ( or at least 250 to be kids tickets). Adults with kids far less likely to kick off any trouble irrespective of the result, single blokes more likely to go in the wilbuts as per normal

Then you would get supporters from the Sandy being told you cant sit there that seat is mine I have a season ticket even though Sandy supporters also have season tickets , if it was made first come first served for the day fair enough

Or they could read the stickers on seats. Honestly our hapless enforcement of sitting in allocated seats cause us so many issues.

The more I think about this madness of trying to segregate the Pearl Street stand the more baffling it seems. We cannot control the schooligans and large away followings when there's 10 metres, a metal fence and kwik fit between them, yet the club are going to try their luck at keeping schooligans quiet when between them are loads of home fans - many kids - and with a wide path suitable for running. There's more than enough room on rows between seats for running too. Sure it's a worst case scenario, but not beyond the realms of possibility. If I had kids i'd be steering well clear of this match.

Blocks U, V and W affected.

Season ticket holders in these blocks have to call in person to swap their season tickets for blocks X, Y and Z.

For compensation, you can bring a friend to the Wycombe game, or as my lad calls it, the ‘Why Come?’ Game.

Everybody moans about the finances and the lack of money.
So what is wrong with putting all the Dale supporters into the main stand and the Pearl Street stand and then give Sandy Land and the Wilbuts Stand to the sunderland supporters.
The extra revenue will come in handy..
And if people moan just let the season ticket holders into those two stands and reduce the on the day entrance fee a couple of quid....
Its only for one game.....

I suspect it's too late to change anything now unless the club/trust is inundated with concerns and decides it can implement a U turn in the short time available, but it seems like they are in launch commit.

This thread and the concerns in it scream for consultation. If ever such a game comes up again, you'd like to think fans might be listened to? I hope it's only pre-match concerns that will be brought to the table next time, rather than anything regrettable/avoidable/catastrophic.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

It's understably rushed planning,it's not like we've known about the fixture for a few months or anything.

Not to worry though,I'm sure we'll get clarity and how busy he's been in this weeks edition of Bottomleys bullshit.

I assume the Pearl St stand has been chosen so that all Sunderland fans can be charged a single price no matter where they sit.

I’m guessing block W will be empty with Sunderland fans in blocks V and U. Quite a big chunk of empty seats if this is the case.

Anybody who thinks selling theses seats in the Pearl St to family stand members from Sunderland will result in Mr and Mrs Cuddly along with Tabatha and Timmy popping down to Spotland is slightly out of touch with reality. The tickets will end up with those most desperate to go, no matter what either club does.

The tickets will go to fans who follow them to most away games, they have a loyalty scheme so that non season ticket holders never get away tickets to grounds allowing for 7 k or under. As all their fans will be registered to the club , I foresee few if any problems from them. As for our band of muppets.....

I think block U which contains 532 seats will be used to house the mackems and the section of V where the seating doesn't go to the back of the stand will be used for segregation.
Have Sunderland fans caused any grief on the road this season? As far as I know we were impeccably behaved in the north east, so hopefully they give Rochdale the same respect.

It's not necessarily the Mackems we have to be concerned about.

That's the same as my thoughts.
I have a season Ticket in Pearl street and if I receive a letter from them about moving I will be sending it back to them along with my season ticket and any renewal forms they send.

This new board are only interested in the money and not the football or the fans. They have already proved with Hills sacking that they are not to be trusted. We will outsung in the home ends and look even more tinpot than usual just so the board can make some more cash to pay Hill off with as it won't go towards the team.

Bit of an over reaction that.

My simple maths are that blocks U and V, two nearest to WMG will equate to circa 500 for Sunderland and block W will be empty.

This based on the fact that those of us having to move can only move to X Y and Z.

From the letter....

‘the fact that we are playing Sunderland in a competitive fixture for the first time in our 112-year History(sic) shows how far as a club RAFC have progressed’

Or

‘the fact that we are playing Sunderland in a competitive fixture for the first time in our 112-year history shows how far as a club SUFC have dropped’
