Awful decision by the ref.
He couldn't wait to give it and then, when the lino intervened, he had to admit he was wrong.
I was in the Sandy but it looked soft from a pitch length away.
We might still go down but for me that last 9 minutes kiiled the Shrews season.
They play at Wembley next week and by then Wigan and Blackburn will occupy the top 2 places. Then it's the third place and being the best team in the playoffs. The statistics indicate that doesn't go well.
I did think the togetherness on the pitch for the goal celebrations was immense.
How does being in the top three at the start of April, probably reaching the play-offs and playing in a Wembley final count as a season being killed?

It's the hope that kills you. One week we're going down, the next week we're beating a promotion chasing team at Spotland after not winning at home for so long. Could we do it?

Those of us who believe in "things evening themselves out over time" will be happy tonight; thinking in particular of the Dele Alli one in almost the same spot. Good evening.

Or the penalties Shrewsbury got in the closing minutes at Gay Meadow in February 1994 and September 1997!

Momentum. TVOS. Momentum.
By the time Shrews play again, after a Checkatrade trip to Wembley, their automatic promotion rivals play twice.
Wigan play Portsmouth (a) and MK Dons (h)
Blackburn play MK Dons (a) and Southend (h)
Best case is that Shrews remain one point outside the automatic spaces having played one less. Wigan and Blackburn have to lose consecutive games for that to happen.
Worst case is that they have one game in hand on Blackburn but are seven points adrift of 2nd.
When their goalkeeper was done by Ian Henderson today at 90+6, that was where the automatic hunt ended for them.
They will be a playoff contender as one of a quartet but momentum is key going into that run. I wouldn't be backing them.
If you don't go up, you're the same as 17 other teams in League 1. But having the hope of doing so crushed is hard to manage.
I hope they enjoy and win the trip to the Checkatrade trophy - if they lost to Lincoln now we should be thinking what could have been!

But they will reach the play-offs and are playing in a Wembley final next week, having been tipped for relegation at the start.
I'd say it has been an unprecedented success, whatever happens from now.
Realistically, Wigan and Blackburn were always going to be the top two.

You're welcome to your opinion TVOS.
You did ask me though how their season had been killed. You didn't want to state at that point how "realistically" Blackburn and Wigan were always the top two.
They blew their automatic chances today. At 2nd bottom Rochdale and whilst 1-0 up. Given we'd only scored 14 league games at home before today, conceding 3 was a bad result for them.
A "good" outcome for their team now would be winning the Checkatrade and playoff success. The historic stats suggest that double is very unlikely and Bristol City and Birmimgham City are the only teams I can think of who have done that - both are much better clubs.
AFC Wimbledon and Rochdale have already represented League One at Wembley this season. Two other teams will also do that in May, one of which may be Shrewsbury.
It's not that big a deal getting to Wembley this season.

OK then, their season is hardly over, is it, ergo not "killed".

That last point will be determined by the presence of a Gala Dinner in their calendar. Or lack thereof.
Davies if fit is what we've missed all season, a six yard box finisher. Like most good goal scorers, he appears to do little in a game but pops up in the box to tap in, or finish well (i.e. Spurs and today's).
If we continue to use Humphries to batter the crap out of opposition defences for 70 minutes and then swap him for Davies we will have a chance. We just need to keep both free from injury

It depends also if they are "progressive".
Obviously, promotion to the Championship would prove this and then as such a big, black tie dinner, perhaps in the town hall of Shrewsbury would be appropriate.
I'd charge £65 per head at least.

Andrew is playing well- and winning more than his fair share of headers. However Humphreys has been dire and isn’t making the runs off him. First time we drove forward from midfield and we got a goal. We don’t deserve to be in this but we are- need a strong second half.
Defensive headers at set pieces as well as up front. I thought he was far and away our best player in the first half, less stand out in the second.

I'm not even sure the lino would have said much other than 'I didn't see any foul' - the lino was also stood in the position for the penalty to be taken - the ref was in a much better position to give it and he really didn't give himself time to think he was pointing to the spot so quickly. Fair play to him for being weak enough to change his mind and to be fair to the Shrewsbury players - they didn't really protest much - certainly no where near the reaction of all the Dale players to the initial award. It was a very surreal moment.
Take your point but in another sense, it takes some strength to demonstrate the wisdom he did in consulting the linesman, reflecting, and having the courage to recognise his error. All this in the heat of the moment. Strong decision and good for us. Up the Dale. It was surreal I agree, can't imagine a more surreal finish to a game.
