Draws are next to useless 17:27 - Sep 30 with 40186 views | borntogo | Just to point out, to anyone going hoopla about all these 'battling', 'well-earned' nil-nil draws - they're as good as useless. Basically, if a team draws every game through a season, they will be relegated. Sure, they're better than losing but a couple of slutchy 1-0 wins equates to six battling, well-earned bore-outs. It's a concern that Hill is currently packing his subs' bench with our most attacking players (and arguably our best in Done, Davies, Slew, Andrew etc), as if he's actively seeking draws. Rochdale, since time began, has always been a side that plays better off the front foot, going for it rather than consolidating etc. We'll probably revert to type eventually but will lose a lot of points in the meantime.

Draws are next to useless on 18:34 - Oct 1 by middale | Well said, absolutely spot on re. the underlying issue identified. Will anything change though? I doubt it as its been going on for years. In my view the original poster is more right than wrong. Draws aren't exactly next to useless for building confidence but they're most definitely overrated for the mathematical reasons he pointed out. The counter argument that you compensate by winning home games doesn't work because obviously that doesn't happen most of the time. What's really irritating is not actually the draw itself but the manager actively playing for draws. Hill never used to be about that but it seems he is moving more that way now. |
But we finished the game at Blackpool with Andrew, Davies, Done and Henderson on the pitch. Had Andrew not been injured yesterday, we might well have finished the game with those four on as well. I don't think there's any doubt we have set up to be more defensive in the last two away games, but certainly at Blackpool we didn't continue that way. In addition, if you read Hill's comments, he has expressed his disappointment at how we used the ball offensively yesterday, which suggests he knows he has work to do to improve that area. By tightening us up at the back, he's addressed what was a problem for the season's first month; now he will attend to the other end of the pitch.
| When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf? |

The main reason I'm guessing for Hill appearing to "play for draws" is more to do with our ever present problem of leaking goals and he's addressed that by tightening up at the back, thats gone some way to dampen our attacking threat in my eyes. He knows we've got plenty of goals in the team if/when needed with a slight adjustment,so I'd be fairly confident he'll know when to turn more attacking, hes certainly no idiot

Draws are next to useless on 15:11 - Oct 1 by BigDaveMyCock | I agree that talk of bullying etc. is way over the top. However, there is an underlying issue that is turning people away from the forum. I did not particularly agree with the original post but I'm not quite sure it deserved the response of: "Nowt wrong with hoopla, you should try it since you clearly know f*ck all about football" and followed by the sheer arrogance of: "I'll go along with your train of thought for a moment then, just to amuse you..." I read that and thought here we go again, another thread dominated and ruined by you know who. I just don't get the underlying nastiness but hey ho. I think people just read stuff like that and think "do you know what, balls to this." It's not particularly fun on here. |

I suspect my reaction was to the sheer mundanity of "Basically, if a team draws every game through a season, they will be relegated" - not my idea of a fun five seconds, reading that Reactions can come across as being over the top. Sometimes it's just an attempt to spice things up a bit, that doesn't suit everyone but there's plenty on here who can more than cope with it so i'll not lose any sleep over the rest

It was meant to be I'd used the term 'battling' in my description of yesterday's result, which borntogo suggested was being 'hoopla'd' over. That was rude, imo (and i understand people will differ about it) so a strong response was justified For every thread which it's claimed is being ruined, there are far more to which I seek nothing more than to contribute positively, or which i initiate, so let's have a balanced view on this [Post edited 1 Oct 2017 21:30]

I think the issue with your response of him knowing fook all about football is what you are being challenged on. You quote his statement which, in footballing reality, is actually spot on. However mundane, it's factually correct. You've proven yourself wrong again.

I'd suggest you take note of the majority of responses in the thread which disagree with his analysis Plus, there's sometimes more going on than meets the eye. Others have alluded to an agenda on the part of the initiator of this thread. Take from that whatever you wish

I suggest you actually respond to what I wrote. He IS correct on the basis of the statement that you quoted as causing your accusation, therefore making you wrong in stating he knows fook all about football.

How about you respond to what I wrote? If an OP states "The sky is going to be blue tomorrow, if there are no clouds" i'll fully expect you to fawn over the wisdom of it in future

But I did respond to what you wrote which was to quote a factually correct statement about football whilst asserting that the poster knows fook all about football. Do you agree that I did so- yes or no? Do you also now agree that your assertion that the poster knows fook all about football in light of your chosen quoted statement of his is wrong- yes or no?

its not whether you agree or disagree with a post or poster its fine to have a strong opinion. its the personal insults what several of us disapprove. Riddler has reacted in kind but he was provoked and not for the first time. [Post edited 1 Oct 2017 22:49]

No, my assertion isn't wrong. There's a difference between simple maths and the game of football as a sport. What the majority of those responding to the OP analysis disagreed with was in the sporting context - as you well know Now, how about answering the real questions I posed, about the negative agenda by the OP that's been alluded to? It's a genuine question, because that's the context for my response. If you don't know what i'm referring to, fair enough, but in that case, there's nothing more that you can usefully contribute to this particular issue

I don't need to remind you, surely, of riddler's posting history, which features such wonderfully polite exhortions as "Taxi for Hill" He certainly doesn't need provoking But then again, it takes just a little bit more effort to remember such things than your attempt to defend him demonstrates. He's made his bed on here, and he can lie in it, as we all do, gullible conspiracy theories or not

I'll give you something more to laugh at then If you dare, have a count of the number of threads to which i've made positive contributions, and if the number of threads which include anything disparaging on a personal level exceeds 1 in 10 i'll laugh with you If not, i'll just laugh at you. Come on, just 1 in 10... How's that for lack of balance on your part?

If I dare? Rest assured I really have got better things to do with my life than trawl back through the forum to find 8 years worth of your "I've said it now, I'm right, your wrong, so there" arrogant utterances. Perhaps someone else can be bothered to count them all up, I certainly can't.

and there lies your problem D Alien your too busy holding a grudge over what someone has said in an historical post rather than taking a post on its merits btw how long do you hold posts in memory before they expire?..
