Obvious ones like up the dale and give us an r,etc.

Back in the late 70's and early 80's when you could move from the sandy to the fence next to the away end im sure i used to hear the french national anthem, was that a mirage?

I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off
I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off
I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off
I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off

County! County! County!

It brings a tear to the eye,it really does

And in the years following that

I went up to joe Mercer and I said to him
Have you heard of the North Bank, Highbury
No said Joe, I dont Think So
But Ive heard of the Sandy Laners

Apologies to anyone under 40 who wont have a clue what any of these lines mean.

Not sure about the French National Anthem, but the march from Verdi's Aida used to be sung - reckon that might be what you're thinking of. Got a feeling it might have been used as a Wrestling theme tune back in the 80's.

Summat about feeding chickens on Indian corn

oh and having a big cock!!

Add Port Vale to the Handful list and Bolton Wanderers. early 80's was not for the faint hearted that's for sure!

Much better now - no chance I would let my kids go on there own to a game like I used to if things were the same as back then.

To the tune of Lee Marvin's "Wandrin Star" (which reached No.1 in the charts)

I was born in the Sandy Lane
I was born in the Sandy Lane

Boots were made for kickin
That's just what they'll do
And if you are a ****** fan
We'll kick f*ck out of you

Plus the classic Steve Flack song ready to be revived this year when Badley Dack turns up for Blackburn.
I won't repeat the words but I think we all know the song I'm talking about !

Is that right?

I remember a slightly tipsy older fan on a train home from an away game once singing (this version rhymes slightly better!):

Said Bertie Mee to Bill Shankly
Have you heard of the North Bank, Highbury
Bill said no, I don't' think so
But I've heard of the Sandy Laners

Would love to bring some of these back.

Tangled up in blue.

Oh Kevin B of Notts County!
He's got a head like a malteser

'We are evil'...sung in a deep menancing voice. 'You'll never reach the station'...also sung in a deep menacing voice.

I remember the chanting of "Gerrin' to 'em" from the late 80s to the mid 90s.

I've got 2 chickens in my back yard
I feed them on indian corn
and one's a b*gger for f*cking the other
& giving the other the horn

So if your lady wants a baby I'm the cock of the north.
So if your lady wants a baby mine's the biggest of all

My memory might be fading but we are on the same page!

There was another version but i am struggling to remember the third line - it went

I went up to Alf ramsey and i said to him
whose the best centre forward that you've ever seen
(third line forgotten)
Reg Jenkins, thats him

And we should never forget the 'wings of an eagle' song

Ha ha
Thanks moth. Exactly that!! Sung a lot by moggie I think and his band of merry men.

Not sure the Dale reference unless cock of the North refers to being a hard nut.

Also
"With a knock kneed chicken and a bow legged hen
We ain't lost a fight since I don't know when
We don't give where and we don't give a when (this bit needs firming up)
We are the Rochdale ...boot boys"

Barry Haslam and a few other wags used to take the Michael out of the same copper who always used to patrol behind the goal at the Sandy Lane End;
Who`s that fella with the helmet on,Dixon,Dixon,
Who`s that fella with the helmet on,Dixon is his name,
On the beat all day,on the wife all night,
Who`s that fella with the helmet on,Dixon is his name.
The copper always took it well, always had a big grin on his face, though I wouldn`t have fancied being ejected by him, they didn`t pussy foot around in those days!!

Less wag-ish was:

Harry Roberts is our friend
He kills coppers

Roberts shot dead three policemen c.1966, after which this was sung enthusiastically when they walked along the Sandy wall

Those singing it will be either dead themselves or senile after too many blows to the head. I wasn't impressed by it, even as a schoolkid at the time

What's Lee Hughes up to these days?
