It's absolutely inexcusable this, not one other game has been postponed due to weather related conditions? Bemused!
Perhaps it wasn't in the best interests of the team for this match to go ahead and not everything possible was done to enable it to go ahead? Manager and no doubt the team in mourning, poor run of form, injured players, big game on Saturday. Not always black and white.
Lots complaining that no early notification that game could be in doubt.
They have my sympathy.
Spot on.
The rain that has fallen for the last few days was always going to have a possible impact on the pitch. By lunchtime today when it was raining the club must have known there may be a problem, and if they didn't then it's even more worrying!
At that stage that should have been communicated, the weather has got no worse since then, if anything it wasn't as bad as forecast (heavy rain) and the rain was intermittent at best, so the pitch wasn't a victim of a sudden deluge.
No complaints that it wasn't playable, but there should definitely be an acceptance it could have been handled better.
Full marks to the club in recent months, but constructive criticism has to be taken on the chin on this one and lessons learnt.

Yes - when was a pitch inspection announced? With the injury/illness/suspension situation and Hill's dad passing away its probably a 'good' postponement for the club.
Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10
Wonder if the pitch inspection was only carried out at 5 pm cos the ref wasn't there til then? Very tough on people travelling. £1 offer applies to rearranged fixture.
Rubbish. This was a winnable game with one of the biggest promotional pushes in recent memory. The fallout from this is borderline disastrous. We're supposed to be pushing for The Championship, yet again we're seen to have the infrastructure of a non league club. As Chaff said above this has made us look like a joke.

You've got to be joking. How can you even think that this is a "good postponement"? This is the WORST postponement in living memory.

I'm not sure about lessons learnt 442
There's something really amiss with communications within the club for this to happen. It'd be the groundstaff who should be aware of any impending problems, and this should then be communicated to the chief exec (or whoever is available in his absence), but then again the question might've been asked of the groundstaff with a response that just didn't match up to professional requirements. I should imagine RG is absolutely bloody fuming after the efforts he's put in recently.
After the pigeon shit fiasco in the Willbutts, and subsequent bollocking, the lesson hasn't been learnt
Rochdale is the wettest place in the UK with a population of more than 50,000 people. This is bound to happen from time to time . Maybe the groundstaff hoped it would drain quicker but having a soil-rooted pitch rather than one rooted in a sand soil mix may be an unexpected problem in such a wet environment. We live in the wrong place and matches called off is another problem caused by weather along with higher heating bills, more expenditure on roofs and health problems cause by vitamin D deficiency. Maybe we could all move to Cornwall?
Spoke to a Dale fan who got to the ground and said there were Vale fans about and Dale fans who travelled from further afield.
That the OS statement mentions the rain that has fallen in the last 48 hours as being a reason, it indicates there was an issue after, say 43 hours too. To wait and not say that there wasn't an inspection leading to those fans to travel is deserving of an apology at the very least.

There are going to be loads of people turning up at the ground who probably haven't even checked if it's off! It's not even raining now.

Not to mention the bill for Port Vales costs too no doubt, how on earth has this game even been called off in the first place never mind the usual crap communications.
The fact accrington a pitch which has a reputation for being prone to becoming waterlogged isn't off speaks volumes.
As if the pitch being unplayable isn't embarrassing enough, we don't decide to mention anything about the state of the pitch until tea time. What a farce and people responsible should feel embarrassed.

The weather was a lot worse in the 48 hours leading up to Hornets game Sunday?

Indeed. Half a days holiday and £70 in fuel wasted. Heading back to Newcastle now somewhat miffed. Why couldn't they have said they had concerns over the pitch at lunchtime?

That would be too considerate and forward thinking for some of the dinosaurs still obviously employed by the club,sadly....
Embarrassing. It's barely rained since dinner time and it's taken them so long to communicate anythinf relating to the game being off. Accrington has had worse weather than us over the last couple of days and their horrendous pitch is on.
£40 I would have spent at the club on Saturday can go to a bookie at the races instead.
