Brexit .... My thoughts... 11:07 - Jun 16 with 153369 views | JacksDad | The one thing I am certain of re this vote is that no-one knows for sure what the repercussions economically will be if we pull out. If you listen to the experts it will be better if we stay in, however its all unconvincing. My issue is that after 10 years of Austerity, the services in this country have been cut to the bone, that is services that are needed by us all - not just Immigrants/benefit spongers. We are not in a position to afford the enormous gamble if it all goes t1ts up. I am taking my lead from Ray Winston and gambling responsibly and staying in. If we ever get to situation when everything is adequately funded and horrible 0 hours contracts were abolished ... then maybe it might be worth the risk to pull out. But to do it now is a massive gamble which we just cannot afford to lose.

You obviously see this as some sort of xenophobic vote ? 16 odd million voted to come out , they cant all be inward looking little Englanders . Or do you think they are ? . If so why did UKIP only get 25% of that vote. It was Labour supporters that made the difference... all rascist ? They have a different opinion to you , they didnt believe the scare campaign .
Brexit .... My thoughts... on 08:16 - Jun 24 with 2052 views | LythamR | Well we have spoken, I don't think we are going to enjoy the ride but it seems we as a group are prepared to cut our standard of living and accept financial hardship in exchange for more "control" and less migration, Personally I dont want the BofE to intervene it will just cost more , leave it and let the chips fall where they may

Actually, after a quick drop of about 10%, the pound has recovered a few points to finish about 7-8% down on nearly all currencies. I think the big mess will take place over the next week or so.

I'm now moving for independence for London, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. Scotland too. Bexley, Barking, Hillingdon etc will obviously be cut adrift from "Proper" London. We'll introduce an Australian style points system to determine who gets to work/live in our city states. We can each be like Singapore if only we're brave enough. The future is bright if we can free ourselves from the shackles of the rest of the country. We have nothing in common with the people of Clacton or Chichester - we clearly want different things from the rest of the country. Our future is one outside the UK.

Perhaps not the economic scare campaign, but immigration consistently polled as the key motivating factor for Brexit voters, so maybe the scare campaign focusing on Turkey joining the EU and us being overrun with refugees from the Middle-East, won out? I'm certainly saddened about how divided we are as a country and feel quite depressed about our future prospects, both economic and social.

Thanks for trying to cheer me up a bit, Konk. I see the PM has just gone. Blimey. It's alright for you - you're half Scottish aren't you? - you can move to Edinburgh and be back in the EU in a few months!

Brexit .... My thoughts... on 08:29 - Jun 24 with 2006 views | derbyhoop | I'm not surprised but hugely disappointed. The markets have given their INITIAL verdict, with £ down 10% To 1.20, before a slight recovery to 1.22; the FTSE 100 down 8.5%. UK voters had better hope the markets stabilise and soon. But what if all the economic experts prove to be right? Cameron has resigned and osborne's position is equally untenable. Who will the new PM be and it will be his/her responsibility to begin the negotiations to Leave. In the interim, we will have 3 months of financial and economic uncertainty. The heavy votes of Scotland and Northern Ireland in favour of Remain could start the breakup of the United Kingdom. The British people have spoken. Be careful what you wished for.

Brexit .... My thoughts... on 08:31 - Jun 24 with 2000 views | pastieR | Too early to call either way, but it's a low in 31 years, and it was at 1.50 when remain seemed more likely Also my Mate is an FX trader and he said The pound has closed under 1.40 35 times in 8000 trading days since the plaza accord of 1985. 1.32 to 1.37 would constitute a months range in a healthy market. Its not a good thing.

Cameron has for months in this campaign talked the country down, said he would not resign whatever the vote and would invoke article 50 immediately. He now says the country is strong and can exist outside the EU, has resigned and will not invoke article 50. If he had approached the campaign a little more like that then maybe the result might have been different
Brexit .... My thoughts... on 08:40 - Jun 24 with 1955 views | Rs_Holy | Yes it is sad day for Europe, but who's to blame...? Take London out of the mix and huge areas of England are fed up with their lot. People feel disenfranchised and let down. Communities are creaking under the pressures of mass migration and EU legislation. Brussels has to take a long hard look at itself and decide (pretty sharpish) how it wants to conduct itself from now on. I believe a referendum across Europe would see a very similar position to the UK's... i.e. smaller, less well-off nations, voting to stay in and the larger ones (minus Germany) voting out. Today Britain has decided. We are a divided, scared, almost paranoid island... I think a large percentage of the blame has to lay fairly and squarely on the undemocratic, jobs for the boys, out of touch bunch over the channel. It is quite simply a case of enough is enough.

I enjoyed the jousts with you .Fair played . When Cameron steps down , lets look at the FTSE and the £ then . I think they will be back by then . There are already leaks from Treasury staff saying the report stretched the data to reach ridiculous conclusion . The Scots and Irish deserve a vote , we need concensus to move forward , however they would have to join the single currency if they chose EU over UK ...

Brexit .... My thoughts... on 08:49 - Jun 24 with 2402 views | Brightonhoop | This is a disaster that will take several days to dawn on us all. The next 7 days are critical. For a country 7 years into austerity a lurch to the right, and £35 Billion lost over night, is not very clever and the last thing needed. Sinn Fein already at it. Every possibility the Gib border will be closed, Spanish may well march in there. And the Scots will want out.England will be a shadow of its former self in a year or two. Be careful what you wish for folks.

This is the reason i voted out. Maybe if we'd had that referendum we were promised on the Lisbon treaty we would still be in. EDIT Eurocats sounds like a Brussels swing band. We’re going to set-up a federal system of Remaintastic City states (Remainia Britannica?), with relations with other Remain outposts in the provinces granted associate status, meaning people from those provinces can live and work in the likes of London, Bristol and Manchester. The rest of the country can fu ck-off. No longer will people from the Home counties and the likes of Bexley and Hillingdon, crowd our roads, trains and tubes. No longer will Londoners have to queue up for ten fuc king minutes to buy a sandwich in Pret because of the sheer number of home counties cun ts queuing up to buy their coffee. Chelsea-supporting t wats from the Home counties will now need visas before they’re allowed into London to watch their side, and under our Australian style points system, all Chelsea fans will start off with a score of -20,000 points. We shall be free and we shall prosper with our fellow travellers from around the nation. Be brave, fellow Londoners; stand tall, face the rest of the country and bellow loudly in their collective, podgy red faces, “Fu ck-off England!”. [Post edited 24 Jun 2016 9:11]
