Don't people buy them they aren't free. Just a 10 pound tax would go far.

Mobility allowance can be exchanged for scooter, car etc. Doesn't seem an awful lot of point in giving an allowance and then raising tax on it. Expensive way to hand money from left hand to right hand.

Getting Amazon to pay some tax would go further.

That's not strictly the case though.

For the huge companies, the actual rate of corporation tax doesn't matter so much since they don't pay anywhere near that amount anyway because they employ complex tax reduction measures to ensure they don't.

A cut in the rate actually raises more money (since companies make less of an effort to avoid it) and helps smaller businesses (who can't afford to employ such measures or are too small to be able to - not operating in several countries for example) which stimulates the economy. There is a point at which that doesn't apply of course, but the cut yesterday will probably result in a higher take.

The big problem is the huge companies not paying what they should. That's the bit that has to be addressed and urgently. Funnily enough, the current government are doing more to attempt to address the problem than the Labour Party did. They are still not acting swiftly enough nor strictly enough. Partly that is because they are concerned that the UK will be seen as hostile to business (and they want business to be based here rather than in, just as an example, Ireland) and partly they are, as all governments before them for at least a generation, in thrall to big business.

Best thing in some ways that can happen is for us as consumers to boycott them. I have, for example, refused to buy anything at Amazon for at least a couple of years (I do buy Kindle stuff there because I have to, but I've switched to an independent book store and music stores even though the cost is higher). The only issue, is that I am then feeling guilty that I may cost some people in Swansea their jobs since they employ so many. It's difficult.

Good post. The corporates and their tax avoidance has to be sorted. I can't understand why the UK France and Germany couldn't push this through. At the end of the day the EU is an enormous market for these companies - who would block the legislation? Ireland, the Netherlands, Lichtenstein? Meanwhile let's concentrate on the asbo types with their disability badges in parking slots. Peanuts in the big scheme of things but if it makes some people feel superior ......

People need to stop thinking we live in a democracy. We don't. IMHO. Some just participate in the illusion of who gets to be the figurehead of GB PLC.

You're so right in your last paragraph. Purchasing power is massive. Keep it local, man..

It is absolute peanuts. Wrong, hugely annoying, but peanuts.

Badly thought out legislation which will obviously not go through and will be dropped gradually until it becomes a figment of everyone's imagination, same as the nonsense over tax credits.

Agree with what your saying, so lets cut the 100 book dossier of corporate tax lax and simplify it and make it fair for companies of all sizes.
Or has been muted if you operate in this country you pay tax in this country for what your OPEX/CAPEX/Earnings are from your UK operations on a slide value scale basis?

It is questionable that to many are classed as disabled. We see too often people parking in disabled places and they Spring out of their cars. The British race is to soft. I have a bad back it hurts in the morning and after standing. I just get on with it.

And not everyone with a disability should be entitled to benefits- people with disabilities should still work if they can. It's not as if they are expected to go down a coal mine. Many disabled people work and they have my respect. If you can operate a computer you can work.

It does surprise me that Cameron had a disabled son and despite the Cameron's being rich claimed all the allowances. Cameron uses his son always as his defence. I would have thought he would have had a quiet word with Osborne not to push this. With regards to disabled parking. So if it's OK to get up and Spring out the car go shopping take bags back to car then it's ok for me to park in the child spaces despite the fact my kids are in their teens. Great.

Please don't suggest disabled people have an easy time. The whole point of this 'government' has been to take money away from them. while pushing propaganda benefit porn which the stupid brainwashed public swallows like the sheep they are.

Why don't you employ a disabled person that can 'work a computer' then, put your money where your mouth is?

I'm not the one with the required information to say..

but i know a few 'disabilities' are opinions more than actual fact.. and can be argued to be false.. a lot of disabilities are being questioned everyday..

The ones that are being questioned..

Alcohol abuse
Anxiety Disorders
Aspergers Syndrome
ADHD
Chronic illness
Drug abuse
Dwarfism
Eating Disorders
Intellectual Disability
Learning disabilities
Obesity
A variety of mental health problems

Plus many people with disabilities function fine without financial support from numerous studies.

I've worked with learning disabled people for decades. Their complex behaviour means they can also have a number of the other 'questionable' disabilities you list.

That's the spirit though, ask whether they need financial support or not.
