...And Another Mention For Dale 13:09 - Oct 31 with 1380 views | mikehunt | In The Times today (I know but they didn't have an FT this morning). We appear in a list of hardly ever played derbies. We are 2nd and 3rd with one game apiece v. Manure and Man City. At the top, with zero games, were Halifax and Leeds.

No it was just a one-off game. Lost 4-0 at Maine Road, can't remember too much about it other than Rodney Marsh played and we were never in it!

6/9/72 City 4 Dale 0 in the FL Cup Att: 17,222 We also beat City away 2 months later in the Lancashire Cup 4-2. In the game you refer to however, I remember reading in Mike Doyle's auto-biography, that he regretted purposefully taking out our right winger breaking his leg. Looking at the records that would've been Bobby Downes who didn't play for us again until December. And Doyle went onto finish his career with us in 1984, which is why I bothered to read his auto-biography!
