Other countries do it because they see the benefit. We however take them to meaningless friendlies or qualifiers they're not needed for.

General question for you Tazbot. You come across as an expert on the U 21's, but do England field an Under 20's team? We have the U20's World Cup here in May, just watched the draw, no England. Some "big" teams here...Brazil, Argentina, Germany etc. but no home nations.

yeah the Qualificiation is normally earned through the U19's set-up but they failed to get to the finals last year so the U20's missed out on New Zealand 2015 U20 World Cup i think

Agreed he should get a look in at the squad after the under 21s. It's just ridiculous comments from the press and ex players such as " England should build their team around Him" Just like Rooney, Walcott Defoe etc. Once someone has a good 6 months which is all Harry Kane has had they become the next saviour. Cheap Journalism yet the pressure on these young players ends up burning them out
It's Begun. on 13:02 - Feb 10 with 4818 views | AtThePeake | It would be interesting to get the player's perspective re: playing under 21 football. Would you rather play in an ultimately meaningless tournament or go and get your first England caps, impress the first team-manager and get to know the first-team squad?

The Tournament is more important than England Senior International Friendlies against the likes of Ireland & Italy Reserves & if you actually pay attention to International Football you'd notice most these countries entire current squads which feature in these Tournaments such as Germany go on to the likes of The World Cup & Euro's as a Team not as just 1 player dragged and thrown in the deep end

I'm not sure. I'd take one cap for the England national team and the chance to pit my wits against some of the world's best players over an U21's tournament win, but perhaps that's just me. I'd suggest the reason that Germany and Spain won tournaments in recent years is because their respective pools of players were so strong that they could afford to field strong starting XIs in U21 tournaments that consisted of players who weren't good enough to get in the 1st team just yet anyway. In fact I've just had a look at the Spain 2009 winning squad and whilst there are two or three players on the verge of the first team now, I don't think there are any players in that squad that could have been considered regulars when Spain won the WC in 2010. "Whether we get all of those lads, Roy has said he is happy for them to play for us in the summer," he added." Finally an England Manager with common sense http://www.thefa.com/news/england/under-21/2015/feb/southgate-on-euro-selection-
