England on 11:44 - Oct 13 by D_Alien | You're right of course. There is too much negativity around the England setup. I think a lot of it is based on the frustration of watching footballers who perform well in the premiership struggle to do the basics right when they pull on an England shirt. You have to admit, it's painful to watch at times and has been so for a very long time. The last England side that performed at a high level was in the 1-5 victory in Germany, 13 years ago, and that was a one-off game. The last string of good performances came under Glenn Hoddle in 1998. Since then, we've not really had what you'd call a team, just a collection of selfish egos. That grates with a lot of people, who'd spend several years of their lives earning what these lads do in a week. |
the frustration is the key to everything. We have a set of players who, whilst not as good as previous years, compete at the very highest stage at club level. Even taking the pessimistic view that the Premier League is behind Germany and Spain, the players are competing (and doing well) against some of the best players both domestically and in the Champions League. No one ever complains about technical inferiority when they're playing for their clubs. Managers have rightly been blamed at times but there comes a point when its been manager after manager, and with the amount of money the FA has thrown at managers, surely it can't be a case of getting the appointment wrong every time. There's been managers with experience of the biggest teams, international football, yet still the problem remains. The excuses come thick and fast. Today Ferdinand is stating that a mid winter break would stop us turning up jaded at World Cups, but yesterday's performance was no different to anything at a World Cup and we're weeks into the season. We can blame grass roots, coaching, speed of the Prem League or even the balls being too round, but none of that will ever disguise the fact the players can do it at club level, yet can't (or won't) for their country. Nobody enjoys playing for England anymore.

Completely agree, no one enjoys the pressure of putting on an England shirt. A lot of it comes down to the media and the grilling that they give the national team, even when we play reasonably well. When our players play for their clubs they are free from pressure, free to express themselves and not afraid of making mistakes. However in England matches there is a tension in the air, particularly when we play at Wembley. It's sad to see, players should be honoured and proud to play for their country and they should show the same passion that they do when they play for their clubs, however you can't really blame players that they are 'too tired' to play and then make a miraculous recovery for their clubs next fixture.

Quite a few Premier league players in Germany, Argentina teams who went to the World Cup final without getting 'tired'. England aren't a great team - and we are not a bad team either - We will probably qualify from this group with 9 or 10 wins out of 10 games - then just see how we do in France 16 - no pressure to win it - just go and play as a team.

England on 11:11 - Oct 13 by Luke8686 | At home yes but away from home these can be tricky fixtures. This is the team that held Holland to a 2-2 draw in the world cup qualifiers. Not a vintage performance by any means but we got the job done and we should move on and stop being so negative imo. |
Correct, these teams don't turn up to lose they are there to win or at least get a result. The only thing England or any other team can do beat what is in front of them and they did just that yes they were poor on the night but they won.

England on 13:06 - Oct 13 by judd | Rooney was about to be subbed when he took the free kick from which the Estonia keeper scored an OG. |
Rooney's ball control first half was shocking (touch like a donkey) and his passing terrrible (under-hit or over-hit 9/10) His positional play was fine, however whne he got into good positions he forgot to kick the ball and played for air instead. The rest of the team sussed this out and in the second half they decided to not play for him. Instead they played for Wellwide, who won the free-kick that set up the own goal. The then reprieved Rooney then went on to kick another free-kick into Latvia, lift the ball 6 inches off the ground when attempting to lob the keeper and then get interviewed as match winner/record chaser/star striker/Pele instead of been asked "what do you think to your own performance over 90 minutes?" Rooney will no doubt eclipse Lineker Linekar scored against Brazil Argentina W Germany Spain Holland France Poland Hungary Columbia Denmark Rep of Ireland etc Rooney has scored against Liechenstein Isceland Khazakstan Andorra San Marino Macedonia Estonia Montenegro Slovakia etc, most of whom were simply combined as "USSR" when Lineker was playing The Euros has been expanded to include far more pony teams, the world cup too. Lineker 48 goals in 80 games against mainly strong opposition Rooney 43 goals in 99 games against mainly not so strong opposition. Plus his hair is gash, he would never make it at Barca or Grampus 8, he sounds like a scally and plays for Man United. Is that enough hatred of the England Captain and goal scorer yesterday? Raheem Sherling is well overrated but lets not forget to mention the football association's schoolboy error's by Fast-Tracking players into the 1st Team set-up instead of doing like Germany and Letting the team grow up together and bond as a proper squad they are pushing players into the deep end far too early Sherling, Jonjo, Chambers, Oxlade-Chamberlain & Wilshere should of all been playing at Molineux on Friday Night as promised by Roy but they never happened they were fielded even one of them a unused substitute in both games against teams which even normal english people could beat if i were roy had them two fixtures thrown infront of me, I've of matched but their teams by calling up the entire England C Team to SGP and they'd of probably enjoyed every minute of it. Lets face it both San Marino & Estonia especially, this team doesn't deserve the glit's & glamor of France 2016

England on 18:51 - Oct 13 with 2234 views | 442Dale | While some players benefit playing for the u21s, for others it holds them back. Imagine if Michael Owen had been put back with the 21s after the '98 World Cup for example. Same with the likes of Stones, Sterling and Chambers now, they need to be able to push inferior players out of the full side. Would agree that those on the periphery should be used in tournament settings, but the argument is that the best players will play in much bigger games for their club sides and the lack of pressure on the 21s means they'd not gain as much as the likes of Kane and Berahino who either a) feature infrequently at a big club or b) play for a smaller club where the pressure games are in relegation settings only. One look at our 2009 u21 squad illustrates that being brought through from that level is few hits and plenty of misses. Remember, this is the side that finished runners-up and only lost to a team containing some of the Germans who won the World Cup. Imagine if they had been given the same chances as the likes of Neuer, Kedira, Ozil, Hummels etc... ENGLAND: GK 22 Scott Loach - Hart was suspended RB 2 Martin Cranie - now captain at Barnsley CB 17 Micah Richards - great example of a young superstar being not that great. CB 6 Nedum Onuoha - a poor man's Micah Richards LB 19 Kieran Gibbs - Plays at Arsenal when not injured, never been better than 3rd best LB in the country DM 12 Fabrice Muamba - had to retire while at Bolton CM 4 Lee Cattermole - gets booked a lot. Sent off sometimes. CM 10 Mark Noble (c) - a West Ham regular, yet to find a man with a pass. RW 7 James Milner - the success story. England managers love him. LW 11 Adam Johnson - hopes to keep Will Buckley out of the Sunderland team. CF 14 Theo Walcott - runs fast. Want to be a centre forward. Winger. Substitutions: DF 18 Michael Mancienne - went to Germany. Now helping Forest get lots of clean sheets MF 15 Jack Rodwell - left Everton for the big time. Gets to play with Will Buckley at Sunderland MF 8 Craig Gardner - a poor man's Lee Cattermole Coach: Stuart Pearce. Tremendous manager.

Spain Under 21 (Title Holders) & Holland Under 21 both crashed out tonight but Holland ducking out in the Play Off is understandable with what happened in Eastern Europe with that plane no doubt their government will be paying Holland Under 21's handsomely for not making them Final's
