Saints V Dagenham & Redbridge The Preview

Saints get the chance to push into the play off spots tonight

Those Saints fans with long memories will be approaching tonights game with trepidation, playing the team with the worst away record in the division and a chance to push forward in the league often ends in tears for Saints and tonight Nigel Adkins has to show he has installed a ruthless streak into the side to go and kill off the opposition.

Slowly but surely Saints have put a little run together and sneaked up on the rails into the promotion chase, however a word of caution is that in that run three of the games have been at home and of the two away, the win on Saturday was slightly fortuitous and the only decent side we have met beat us with ease.

However on the plus side, seasons are changed in crucial moments and on Saturday the penalty swung the game and possibly the season, although we were only playing against 10 men, the confidence returned at that moment and we looked a different side mentally.

But Saints shouldnt rest on their laurels, Nigel Adkins has kept faith with certain players, and although one or two of them are starting to pull through a sticky period, others arent and changes do need to be made still to keep people on their toes and fresh, we have a big squad we need to use it.

A win for Saints should at the least push them into a play off spot and even into second place although thats unlikely, however we are now making every side look over their shoulder, as favourites for the title they have been waiting for us to hit form and now we are up there and pressing, Bournemouth for example have been crowing about their start to the season and how bad ours was, now we are only a point behind and could overtake them tonight.

All predictions will be for a Saints win, but we have to remain focussed, patient and take our chances when they come, what we have to eradicate is the lapses in concentration and individual errors that have been a feature of every game in the winning run worryingly not just from one or two players but several.
