Marc Edwards will make the trip down from Gateshead to referee Saturday’s home game versus Gillingham.
Currently in his fourth season on the National List, Marc has refereed five previous Dale games, four ending in defeat, but one in an impressive victory.
That was early last season at Port Vale, where two Jake Beesley headers and a Corey O’Keeffe effort helped Dale to a fine 3-2 win.
The most recent loss was in October, when Edwards was at Spotland for Dale’s 2-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon.
Last March, he was in the middle for our 2-0 defeat at Carlisle and 12 months before that, Marc was at Spotland for a dire 2-0 home loss to Burton Albion, in which Dale had Ollie Rathbone sent-off for an ill-advised headbutt on an opponent!
Mr Edwards’ first Dale appointment was in November 2019 when we faced Coventry City at St Andrew’s, a match the ‘home’ side won 2-1.
Before Tuesday night, when he was at Bolton Wanderers v MK Dons, Marc had refereed 16 matches this season, showing 53 yellow cards.
One further piece of information, Marc’s wife is Helen Edwards, who was the female assistant on the Willbutts Lane side at last Saturday’s game against Northampton Town.
