Everton Pursuit Of Walker Peters Subject To Premier League Financial Sanctions

Earlier in the week we reported that Everton are lining up a bid for Kyle Walker- Peters from Saints, but it appears that before they can do this, they will have a lot of negotiating to do, as it appears that any transfer has to be approved by the Premier League.

The war in Ukraine had a bigger affect on Everton that most Premier league clubs other than Chelsea when it emerged that one of their major backers was a Russian Ogliarch, that did not help their financial position that emerged of a major breach of the financial fair play rules after the Toffee's had overspent for several seasons.

Now it appears that although they have a big wedge in the bank due to the sale of Richarlison, they might not be able to spend it in it's entirety or even at all.

They are working closely with the Premier League to ensure they are complying with the profit and sustainably rules in place. Any money spent has to be approved by the Premier League, which could be the explanation for their lack of transfer activity so far.

They have £60 million in the bank from the sale of Richarlison to Spurs, and they are linked this week with both Walker-Peters and Armando Broja, if they were to but KWP from us that would be at least £20-25 million and Broja around the same.

There is no doubt that they need full backs and forwards, but their squad numbers are severely depleted after key departures this year and it seems that if they are to build their squad then they have to sell and raise money.

This is perhaps good news for Saints supporters who do not want to see KWP leave the club, the Premier League will want to see Everton make inroads into reducing their debt, any money brought in will need to help towards that, meaning that they could struggle to replace the likes of Richarlison with proven quality, Broja is not in that category just yet having scored just 6 times in the League for Saints last season.
