Saints Agree Fee For Winger ! Medical Scheduled

Saints are being reported as having agreed a fee for their first signing of the summer with a medical already being scheduled.

Saints have scheduled a medical for Standard Liege winger Moussa Djenepo after agreeing an initial £10million deal for his transfer according to the media who quote Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur, who is described as a reputable reporter and who has tweeted.

"Premier League calling for Malian winger Moussa Djenepo (20, Standard de Liege). The clubs have reached an agreement in principle over an initial fee of £10m. Medicals planned."

Djenepo has been linked with a move to St Mary's for several weeks now and was a mainstay for Standard Liege in the 2018/19 season, playing 39 times across all competitions, including in the Europa League, scoring 11 goals and chipping in with a further six assists.

The article goes on to suggest that this is not a big signing for Saints but one for the future with Djenepo being signed for his potential rather than his ability to step straight up to the plate.

This type of signing is getting back to the formula that enabled Saints to finish in the top 8 four seasons running and qualify for Europe twice, with hindsight our failings apart from the selection of managers after Claude Puel have been when we have looked to make big statements and signed players for big money.

Djenepo would be a reasonable punt at £10 million.
