Just like the sitcom Blackpool have 'one foot in the grave' although unlike Victor Meldew's claims of 'I don't believe it', there was very little in the way of surprise as Lee Clark's men fell to another defeat which edges them ever closer to relegation.
Blackpool are 17 points adrift of Championship safety as their winless run stretched to eight games with a defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday. Watford loanee Lewis McGugan's third goal in five games was enough to earn Wednesday their third win in four league matches. McGugan's curling free-kick from the left evaded everyone to find the net after the break. Blackpool rarely threatened throughout.
The visitors controlled a poor encounter, with McGugan shooting over the bar early on before striker Atdhe Nuhiu missed a free header at the back post. Jamie O'Hara curled a free-kick over the bar in a rare Blackpool attack before McGugan fired the Owls into the lead. Wednesday dominated possession and had more shots on goal than Blackpool, who look certain to be playing League One football next season.
