Big bad Baz leaves Hatters by mutual consent

Scoring sensation Barry Conlon won’t be banging them in for the Hatters in the future as he has had his County contract cancelled by mutual consent. The 32-year-old will now be able enjoy the festive period without having to worry about keeping in good shape as a professional footballer.

Conlon was recently in the news after being banned for drink driving and driving without insurance, and his woes have worsened as the club have decided to part company with the veteran striker. The official web site says that injury has meant that he has been unable to make the desired impact and that he has also had 'off field' issues to deal with recently which suggests they clearly weren't happy with his recent brush with the law.

Barry made 11 appearances for the Hatters following his arrival from Chesterfield although despite scoring plenty of goals in pre-season he never looked capable of finding the back of the net when the proper season began. In recent months he has been limited to appearances off the bench although the club have now decided to cut their losses and have parted company.

Conlon was manager Paul Simpson's second signing following his appointment and he has proven to be a huge disappointment and a waste of money. The player has had issues at various clubs in the past and so his off field problems this season won't be a major surprise to the managerial team or the fans!

Hopefully Simpson will now be able to use the wages to bring in another player who will make a positive contribution as we look to climb away from the foot of the Football League.
