Underwhelming loans out
at 12:58 27 Sep 2024

Got me thinking, can anyone remember when we loaned a player out, they had an underwhelming spell, but eventually turned out to be good player for us? I can't think of one off hand, but there must be surely.

We all know about the success of Eze, Dieng, Chair, Les, but has anyone ever gone out on loan, ripped up zero trees, returned and done well? I am sure there must be some.

Similarly, I can only really think of Jack Clarke as being a loanee to us who didn't do much but then went on to be a success?

I'm still haunted by the Phantom Playing Card Sender in the days when the programme was worth reading.

I may be incorrect, but didn't that turn out to be our favourite "not missed a home game in 50 years" man? Memory may have gone here.

Pep on the EFL Cup
at 09:29 25 Sep 2024

Will he play the second team when the minute they get a week off they jet off to America or Asia to play a friendly?

It's amazing how there aren't too many games then.

To be fair to Pep his record in the competition is of playing pretty strong sides, but when you have a squad of 100 I guess that is OK.

I get your point about "mini cup run", but my lord how far have we fallen for that to even make any sense!

Seconded - he's been brilliant and will be much missed.

I presume as he is a journalist if it was some scandalous reason that they have stopped he would actually reveal it?

Dave Mc on Twitter (X) saying that they are indeed no longer covering QPR, but with no reason as to why.

Lost their inside info? Not enough interest? (not what he said previously) Something to do with Nourry? Just personal reasons?

I don't know, but it is a sad loss for QPR coverage and proper inside info (when it was at its peak).

Sure, but do we know if it is MC not wanting to do it or if Nourry won't let him?

I have no idea why he wouldn't let him though, I am sure MC can handle himself.

Here we go, knives being sharpened, unsubstantiated stuff being posted.

If only we had a real fans person like....I dunno....Ainsworth?

Using the evidence from my own eyes, he is anything but arrogant. Coming over to fans afer a victory where he is being idolised by the fans, there is nothing from him except pointing to the players, saying "it is them, not me".

No punching of the air in rhythm with fans' cheers, no ego, nothing.

Just what I see.

Can this team play Marti ball?
at 10:09 22 Sep 2024

Yep - I always understand frustrations, especially after a pretty poor home performance, but considering the rubbish that we've put up with for quite a few seasons now I think the criticism is a little over the top.

Especially as we have Frey scoring goals, the potential of Dembele, Saito looked more impactful, Nardi coming good, the best defensive back four for many a year...

Yes something isn't quite working, but I have every confidence in Marti to fix it. And probably with Chair.

"needs to show what all the fuss is about"

Well he produced "the fuss" with his frankly excellent efforts last season, no?

Perhaps a bit early to get the knives out.

Ha ha - spot on, Brian.

The only thing that remains open to debate is if the cup tie was the more important game. I say it was, by a million times. I know many disagree.

Not to repeat the 500 pages of debate above, I am sure you are right, but I don't care as it isn't the point the cup people on this debate are trying to make.

At least we would have tried our best to win the more important game - the cup tie.

Can I be the first to say - we rested players for that???????????????????????????

Ownership, board members, put something in any manager's must-do list right now.

THOU SHALT NOT REST PLAYERS IN A CUP TIE SO WE CAN DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN SOME DULL LEAGUE GAME 5 DAYS LATER

arrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hope it was better to those at the game. Looked lucky to get a point to me.

Praise for Nardi - some good saves and confident on the ball (if heart stoppingly so at the end). Too many players out of sorts, even Cookie not at his best.

Also praise for Frey, one sniff, one goal. Can't argue with that.

I am hoping Chair will get us up and running properly.

We can't keep giving them corners and set pieces or Hoofball Harris will punish us eventually.

I am really not sure about having Madsen and Andersen on the pitch together.

Great ball from Dembele, thought he looks really sharp.

I presume Morgan is that youngster we signed from Spurs? Defensive midfielder?

Kick off times
at 07:39 20 Sep 2024

Yes, but this is all part of the Sky dominance and genius of the model. It's all about subscriptions. They don't care about the fact they get zero viewing figures for their games, it isn't really relevant.

I hate these kick off times, they stop me going, stop my son going from Uni, ruin atmospheres. But in reality, am I going to cancel my sky subscription in protest? Not in a million years. I love cricket, so couldn't do without it. I actually watch very little football on it. Ever just tried to cancel one part of your subscription like the kids channels or whatever? They are all incomprehensibly tied to each other "Oh, if you cancel that then you lose x, y, z channels" etc etc.

So most of the fans singing derogatory songs about Sky TV, then go home and watch their subscription.

I'm sure there is a better way of forcing Sky's hand, and I think it is non-attendance of games and poorer atmospheres, which happen anyway. A worse product doesn't help them at all.

Poor old Celar, he keeps coming up against all these world-class centre backs every time he plays.

Looking forward to judging him properly against the Nuns of the Holy Order's 3rd XI defence when we play them :-)

Certainly not comparing MC to McLaren. Don't even think it is particularly a Marti thing, more a modern day, club thing.

I couldn't give a flying rat's tail about giving a Newcastle loanee or even Saito or Celar minutes - can't we do that when we are 3-0 up against Millwall as obviously we will be now we rested some of our best players?

I mean why El Tel played Waddock in the 1982 semi final when Gary Burke (?) was desperate for some game time, I just don't know.

I just find it all a bit Ainsworth. Heads held high, didn't embarrass ourselves, privilege to be on the same pitch, ooh look at their striker they bought for £30m.

We are QPR not Yeading. We are a decent-sized club. Show it.

I don't think anyone is denying the realities that Palace are far stronger than us, or even that our strongest team would probably have lost anyway.

I'm 50 years old. If I stay well for another 30 years I would like to see is in a cup semi final. I am not asking for much really. I won't even remember the Millwall result in a year's time.

If we had played our strongest 11 (I know we had injuries) and lost like that I would have been uncomplaining. To "get some game time" into players - who cares? It's a knockout round of a major competition. PLAY YOUR ****** BEST AVAILABLE TEAM.

The only manager who ever had an excuse was Warnock. We were top. Real chance. I didn't agree with that either. We had a good side, could have had a deep cup run. It isn't terminal for your league prospects to have that, is it? Where is the proof of that?

Do you think Warburton was still right to "rest" a flying-at-the-time Willock for the Peterboro FA Cup game? A defeat from which we then spiralled down the table anyway?
