I suppose you could say that Fernández is a replacement for Alcarez but they are slightly different players. I forgot that we'd lost Stuey Armstrong, that is a big miss, sometimes you don't appreciate someone until you haven't got them. We should have attempted to keep David Brookes he's can be a match winner (as he was for Bournemouth last weekend). Instead we chose Ryan Fraser because he was free. |

You're right, we got rid of better players than we brought in. Adams replaced by Archer Edozie replaced by Cornet. Charles replaced by Big Les ( I can never spell his name). Alcarez not replaced. Not surprising that we're in this dire situation. |

I think the only ones coming in will be the ones we currently have out on loan. But I think they'll be plenty leaving. At least then we might see some of our Academy players getting game time. |

"WHY". Why would anyone be interested in buying our club. I really can't think of one good reason WHY anyone would want to invest in us. The only people daft enough to invest in our club is us fans who pay silly money to support them [Post edited 8 Jan 14:07]

It doesn't work for us. We want owners that are totally committed to us without any interest or distractions by being involved with other clubs. SR have destroyed our Club. They will regret it when they have to sell it for a lot less than they paid for it. If they think that is good business then they shouldn't be in business. |
| Forum Reply | Southampton Summer Signings The Initial Verdict at 11:34 6 Jan 2025
Spot on Grumps. RM's method of being best mates with everyone has created a lazy mentality at the club. But blame SR they appointed RM & kept him well past his expiry date. None of our players have been physically or mentally fit enough for the Premier lge. Added to the fact that they are not good enough is why where we are now. It's a fact that you can make up for lack of quality by being fitter & more energetic than the opposition. As for the Academy why do we spend millions on running the academy if its not producing young talent. It's like any other business if the expenditure is greater than the income then it will fail. |
| Forum Reply | Harwood Bellis not good enough to play ctr back in Premier lge at 09:42 6 Jan 2025
You're right when you say it's the modern way of playing, I would say like every thing else in life its a " Fashion". Fashions come & go & date very quickly, so the sooner this fashion goes the better. Let's get back to basic, simple football. I just don't get it, left footers trying to play on the right, right footers trying to play on the left. Expecting goalkeepers to be good with their feet, they should concentrate on keeping the ball out of the net (eg. Peter Shilton , Peter Schiechel, Gordon Banks). False nines, we used to call them inside forwards. Inverted full backs, what's that all about. All this jargon is just making a very simple game extremely difficult. [Post edited 6 Jan 9:43]

Agreed. Four at the back, full backs priority must be to hold position & defend. Four in midfield, the two wide midfielders to get up & down the pitch keeping the width on. The two central midfielders to do holding role & cover for wide midfielders when they get forward. Two strikers, preferably a target man ( we only have Tall Paul) playing with quick player alongside him ( has to be Archer). This formation won't keep us up but it might stop us getting hammered every week & regain some credibility. |
| Forum Thread | Harwood Bellis not good enough to play ctr back in Premier lge at 17:12 5 Jan 2025
Harwood Bellis is proving to be a bit of a liability, he shone in the Championship but Is now making far too many mistakes with his positioning & defending, he's been guilty of making schoolboy errors. He might get away with it if playing in a better team alongside better defenders than we have. Same goes for Flynn Downes, he looked good in Championship but is far to lightweight & erratic in Premier lge. I'm picking on these two because we spent Millions to get them in at start of season & they like most of our players just ain't good enough, albeit we might have to rely on them because we have no one better. Agreed RM instilled a lazy mentality into the players. None of them have trained hard enough or been fit enough all season. That's RM's fault. What you lack on ability you can make up for with fitness & attitude. We have poor fitness levels & poor attitude. |
| Forum Reply | Brentford Game Matchday Thread at 21:01 4 Jan 2025
Glad you mentioned Oriel Romeu because he had exactly what this team lacks. Oriel had Skill + spirit + prepared to put his foot in + will to win. We lack all of the elements now. When Oriel left was the start of our downfall. |

Why do people keep on praising KWP. He might not be one of our worst players but he's grossly overated. Yes he's good on the ball but he carries it too far & there's very little end product. As for his defending, he's rubbish. But he flatters in a very poor team, I'm not convinced he'd get regular games for any other Premier Club. |
| Forum Thread | Ivan Juric brave (or crazy) team selected to play Brentford at 14:02 4 Jan 2025
Ivan has made some very brave team changes for today's game against Brentford. Preferring Bree over Sugawara at RB. Bringing in Kamaldeen up front to replace Armstrong. But I really like that he's sticking with Tall Paul & including the likes of Bella Kotchap, Charlie Taylor in the matchday squad. Bit surprised that he's not giving Archer a chance to play alongside Tall Paul, I think that could work. But at least Ivan is not shoehorning mates into the team like RM did. Note. Slack Jack not anywhere near the squad since finishing his suspension. |
| Forum Reply | Shea Charles On The Radar Of 3 Top Flight Clubs at 10:22 2 Jan 2025
He's at probably better than what we have. Downes is disappointing, too erratic. Aribo is not good enough to play midfield in Premier lge. Big Les (whatever his name is) doesn't want to be here & he's not impressed anyhow. Smallbone injured but not good enough. Lallana is more creative but not so good defensively & he's always injured. Shea Charles having played regularly for Sheffield is at least if not a better option than any of them |
| Forum Reply | Do Southampton Cut Their Losses Now On This Season And Cash In On Kyle Walker Pe at 16:21 31 Dec 2024
I'm not convinced that they'll be too many Premier Clubs interested in KWP in this transfer window. There's been talk of him going in every transfer window for the last few years, but he's still here. As good as he is going forward everyone knows that he is very poor defensively. The priority for any defender is to be able to defend properly. It's more likely he'll go on a free in summer transfer window. Despite his inadequacies defending he's been one of our best player since he's been here & he's too good for Championship football. |
| Forum Reply | Nucleus of a fairly strong Championship side next season at 08:51 31 Dec 2024
Not sure Ivan Juric will be with us in Championship next season. There is a break clause in his contract at the end of this season which allows him or the Club to invoke. I don't think the club would keep him when we go down, typical of SR they would look for a cheaper version. |
