Sunderland Striker Travelling South For Medical
Thursday, 31st Aug 2023 19:44

Saints have agreed a fee with Sunderland and now Ross Stewart is said to be heading to the South Coast to complete his medical and hopefully put pen to paper well before the transfer window closes.

According to Sky Sports Keith Downie Southampton have had a bid accepted by Sunderland for striker Ross Stewart of £8 million plus £2 million in add ons.

He also adds that Stewart is heading South for a medical today(Thursday).

It is a bargain fee for a striker who scored 10 goals in the Championship last season in only 13 games before injury curtailed his season and Downie emphasises that Southampton will be conducting a more thorough examination that usual to confirm that he is fully fit.

Reports in the North East suggest that Sunderland are reluctantly selling due to the fact that Stewart is now into the last year of his contract and had indicated that he was not going to sign a new one, this will not go down well with the Sunderland fans and I would suspect that he won't be showing his face at the Stadium of Light for the game between the two clubs on Saturday lunchtime.

Downie is yet to play this season and is approaching a return to full blown training, Tony Mowbray had indicated that he was expecting the striker to play in a closed door friendly sometime between the end of the International break and the end of September, so although Stewart will have to wait a month before his Saints debut, a chunk of that is taken up by the International break.

I'm assuming that it will be a very stringent medical, otherwise we might as well sign Rod Stewart 😱

Farlow you're right it is a risk but I think it was his Achilles
Is he seen as a replacement for che or Tella? Are we also going for one of the players from the SPL?

Will we play hard ball with Che and only let him go on loan to Wolves if he signs a new contract? That could work if he goes on loan until January and then if they are relegation candidates and we are promotion candidates he can come back and help
