Southampton Will Be Home In The Carabao Cup
Thursday, 22nd Dec 2022 22:52

Saints will have the advantage of a home tie in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup, can they get through to the semi finals, read on to find out about our chances here.

The Carabao Cup fixtures will come up thick and fast in January, the quarter finals will be held in the week beginning 9th January 2023 and if Saints do reach the semi finals then the first leg will be played just two weeks later in the week beginning 23rd January and the return leg just one week later from the 30th January.

Saints will play Manchester City in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, possibly the worst draw we could have had, however if we beat them then we have a great chance of reaching the final.

The draw is as follows:

Manchester United V Charlton Athletic

Saints V Manchester City

Nottingham Forest V Wolverhampton Wanderers

Newcastle United V Leicester City

Better play one heck of lot better than the last game or that will be the end of the cup run 😢

Our only chance of progressing to the semis was Charlton at home and hope we scrape through on penalties. Nick's proclamation that if we beat City we could go all the way is a joke, all the other teams are better than us at the moment, even Forest have a striker.

Not all bad news. At least the match is at St Mary’s which should give us a chance, albeit probably a small one.

I hope that the club’s money men adopt a sensible pricing policy and don’t attempt to charge Premiership prices for what is especially a second rate cup competition. They need to acknowledge that the match is being played just after Christmas during a cost of living crisis and charge accordingly.

Easy.

Quarters- beat City,

Semis- Beat MU (Avenge the 9-0),

Final -beat Leicester(Avenge the 9-0) crowned CC champs and none of the commentariat ever mentions the 9-0's again

Merry Xmas!

Speaking of 0-9 scores;;;;;Nathan can relax - he is allowed at least two 0-9's before he has to start packing his bags!!!

We might stand a reasonable chance of a result - if Pep decides to field his U18 side against us, but considering that he discarded Bazunu, and then let us sign Lavia, Edozie and Larios in the summer - I'm not so sure.

The draw had been kind to us up to now - this is indeed the second worse draw after Man C away so things have evened out!!

By the time this is played we should know more about our prospects but either way, defend like mad, have some luck and take it to penalties would be the suggested tactics.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE. Let's hope 2023 is a better one from a Saints point of view. If it is any worse then off to Millwall and Luton we go...
