Yan Valery Departs On Permanent Deal To France Thursday, 1st Sep 2022 22:04 Another has gone through the out door with Yan Valery joining French Club Angers SCO on a permanent deal after 7 years at St Mary's.
A little under 4 years ago Yan Valery looked to have a bright future at Southampton FC with a series of decent displays at right back including a screamer of a goal at Old Trafford .
But he fell out of favour with Ralph Hasenhuttl in the following season and has failed to produce his form of old consistently.
Now with a year left on his contract Saints have agreed to sell him and get a fee rather than losing him for free and he has joined Angers SCO in his native France.
He would make 53 senior appearances for Valery during his time at Saints, which featured some memorable moments, including the aforementioned spectacular goal away to Manchester United and his strike in a 2-1 comeback victory over Tottenham, both in the 2018/19 season.
Valery now joins the Ligue 1 side, where former Southampton player Sofiane Boufal will be a teammate.

I feel with bednarek and Stephens also on the way out, Valery was a useful, flexible and fairly low wage backup for our defence. If bednarek goes too we'll be down to only 3 CBs in the entire squad wouldn't we? Surely we need to be bringing in at least 2 to have a responsible level of cover?

I do kinda agree Bath, although we were only gonna loan out both if we knew we’d get this Croatian one, so we were always gonna have 4, and seeing how both Stephens and Bednerak are on loan, I’m sure it’ll be part of the deal to be able to recall them if need be, and even then I’m sure we’ve got some young players coming through who may deserve a chance

Good luck at Angers, Yan. Despite never quite making it as a first choice you always gave your best when selected to play. Compared to the village idiot Bednarek I'm sure you'll be welcome at St Mary's any time in the future.

I liked him, he was quiet tough sometimes and that goal against United! He was 'only'on 2k per week I hear so a lot cheaper than the others who have left and indeed others who have stayed Good luck to the lad And I hope he can keep it in his pants there, as whispers of bad behavior and getting into trouble have been heard.

Wish Jan well, despite limited playing time and the obvious disappointment that brings he still seemed to have a good attitude. Also did not have the luck i.e. started against Spuds and that happened to be the game we looked the worst and I'm not convinced it was his fault.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
