Hull win keeps Posh heads above water - Interview
Friday, 22nd Oct 2021 08:27 by Clive Whittingham

It's been a tough start for Peterborough back in the Championship, but a midweek win at Hull has them above the dotted line which for @NotSoPosh1934 is all that matters this season.

A tough start to life back at this level, how would you assess it so far?

It hasn't been what we were hoping for, even though we've shown promise in multiple games. We know it'll be hard to stay up but most of our fan base believes we can do it.

What have been the key problems/issues?

We've had multiple issues unfortunately, most being injuries. But aside from injuries, Christy Pym (our number one) had a fall out with Fergie which has not been resolved and he'll be sold in January. We've been playing most games without a proper striker - Clarke-Harris picked up a three-game ban for posting something now seen as controversial when he was 19. But luckily for you lot he'll be available on Saturday which is good news for us.

Any pressure/criticism on Darren Ferguson?

There has been a lot of criticism but mostly towards the players. Darren Ferguson will most likely have his job until the end of the season as although this is his third spell at the club, him and the chairman have a good relationship.

What business did you do in the summer and how do you reflect on it in hindsight?

I think we made some good signings. We signed Oliver Norburn late on in the window from League One side Shrewsbury and he's played great. Jack Marriott was seen as one of our better signings, he played for us a few years back and we sold him for multiple million. Only a few games into the season he got injured and is now out until next March at the earliest.

Stand out players and weak links in the team?

One of our stand out players has been Nathan Thomson. He's a defender that's only small but puts in some cracking tackles. He's been our best player so far without a doubt. Our weak link is probably Dan Butler as every time he gets the ball he's plays it back to the defence and for a winger his crossing isn't great.

Revised expectations for the season?

I'd say this season is about staying up. At the start of the season I was expecting us to finish somewhere between 12th & 17th but it's not gone too well so far. As long as we can keep up our decent home form, I think we'll finish outside the bottom three.

Jonson Clarke-Harris is sitting this one out as it will be his last match of his suspension.

Thanks to @NotSoPosh1934.

It has been a struggle reducing the budget at QPR and you do wonder what things would have been like on an even lower budget. Peterborough seem pretty good at selling on players. Even with their injury list they have got some decent results and are above the relegation zone.
