Pompey's new midfield partners have done this before... Wednesday, 30th Jun 2021 21:11 by pompey-fans.com staff New signing Ryan Tunnicliffe says he and another recruit, Shaun Williams, can work wonders together in Pompey's new-look midfield. The former Luton midfielder has signed for the Blues having previously operated alongside Williams at Millwall. Tunnicliffe, 28, told the Pompey website: 'It’s another reason why I decided to come down here and play. I’m really excited to be honest. We complement each other well — he’s more of a sitter and likes to dictate, which gives me the opportunity to press, chase and go from box to box. 'It was a good partnership when we were at Millwall and hopefully it can be a good partnership again.' Tunnicliffe's aim is to help Pompey get to the Championship - a division he knows well. He told the site: 'First and foremost, this is a massive club. I spoke to the manager and he told me how much he wanted me here. 'It’s obviously a step down from the Championship, but I don’t really see it like that because it’s an opportunity for me to help Pompey get promoted. I’ve been at some really big clubs during my career, so hopefully I can pass some of that knowledge on. 'I’m in my prime and have learnt a lot over the years, while athletically I’m fine, so I want to bring energy, good performances and become a real fan favourite. It’s been a long year without any supporters inside the ground, but I’ve played at Fratton Park before and know the atmosphere is special. I can’t wait to see the place rocking.' For his part Williams can't wait to get started at Pompey after seven seasons at The Den. He told portsmouthfc.co.uk: 'I’m over the moon. This is such a big club and it’s a privilege to be able to join. I was at Millwall for seven-and-a-half year and have unbelievable memories. It’s a great part of my career and something I’ll fondly remember. 'There were a couple of other options, but this is the one that stood out for me and I’m delighted to get it finalised. I’m a composed figure, a team player and I give 110 per cent each week. I just want what’s best for the team. 'Hopefully that means us winning as many games as possible this season and achieving promotion. This club seems to be a bit of a sleeping giant, so we want to be successful. The support base is massive. I know it’s a cliché, but they’ll definitely be a 12th man when they come back to the stadium.'
