Bolton striker Heider Helguson has signed for QPR on an emergency loan deal.

The Icelandic international striker has joined QPR on loan initially with a view to a permanent deal later if he can prove his form and fitness. The move looked to have fallen through last week but after further negotiation between the two clubs over who will pick up his £16,000 a week wages Helguson is now a QPR player and will line up against his former club Watford on Saturday.

Helguson has struggled to make an impact at Bolton since joining from Fulham and has struggled badly with injuries in recent seasons however he scored for Iceland on Wednesday night in a 1-0 win against Malta and will add a much needed presence and goal threat to the QPR attack.

The 31 year old has 40 caps for his country but first came to the attention of fans in this country when he joined Watford for £1.5m from Lillestrom in 2000. He spent five years at Vicarage Road, scoring 64 goals in 245 appearances. A 20 goal haul in 2004/05 saw Fulham pay £1.3m to take him back to the Premiership and he scored 14 in 37 starts and 26 sub appearances. He has two goals in three league starts and four sub appearances at Bolton but has seen his opportunities limited by injury and the form of Kevin Davies.

It has been reported that Bolton must recall the striker from his loan should he pick up another injury at QPR – this, and the battle over his wages, stalled the deal initially.
