Yet More Fixture Uncertainty As Liverpool Game Date Still Not Firmed Up.
Wednesday, 17th Feb 2016 18:14

Tickets for the visit of Liverpool on March 20th will not go on sale till Friday 26th February due to uncertainty about when the game can be played.

Saints fans will have to wait till Friday 26th February before they can buy tickets for the visit of Liverpool due to the time and date being unable to be confirmed until Liverpool's fate in the Europa League is confirmed.

The ex Saints side face FC Augsburg tomorrow night in Germany and then play the return at Anfield a week later on Thursday 25th February, if they win the tie then the game at St Mary's will be put back to Sunday 21st March with a kick off to be confirmed, whereas if they depart the competition then it will remain a Saturday 3pm kick off.

Once again it is a case of the supporters being mucked about, following a Premier League football club these days means that you are not able to make plans too far in advance due to games changing time and kick off at short notice.

Many season ticket holders where unable to attend the Boxing Day fixture against Arsenal due to it being moved to an evening kick off and then a couple of weeks ago the date and time for the visit of West Ham was changed to the Monday for TV and then changed back to the Saturday with less than a weeks notice due to TV.

Now the Liverpool fixture has that uncertainty again and Saints fans are getting sick of it, there are those who would rather the game be moved to Sunday well in advance so they can plan their weekend, whilst others who come from further afield are faced with train cancellations and bus services due to engineering works if the game is changed to the Sunday.

At least Saints are having the decency to postpone sales till the actual date is known so that supporters can buy a ticket knowing that they will actually be able to make the date be it Saturday or Sunday.

The West Ham game was moved back to Saturday because of their FA Cup replay not because of any TV requirement. It was always the case that whoever plays Liverpool (and Spurs and Man U) have their Saturday games moved to Sunday following Europa Cup matches. Saints' games were too when we were still in the competition. These are unavoidable when a club is still in so many competitions, and nothing to do with TV or any of the clubs involved.

This change has been a possibility since the start of the season

Spurs away is potentially another for the same reason

For once it is a shame it's not on TV as more likely to have been sunday or Monday and we would know already

Of our remaining games highly likely that Leicester and Man city games will be on tv

With Liverpool Spurs and now Man Utd in the knockout stages of the Europa Cup wouldn't it be easier to reschedule their 3 games to the 21st March anyway. If any of the teams are still in the competition then their games could be moved to the Sunday well in advance whether it is needed or not

Just a shade under a month is ample notice. The delay in ticket sale also reflects the clubs desire not to inconvenience supporters.

With the finale of the 6N on Saturday 20th I hope it moves!

A month not quite enough notice for me, I booked a flight for the Sunday 3 days ago.
Already missed Arsenal and West Am this year. When I complained to SFC they told me it was the price I paid for getting a deal on my season ticket. Great deal!!! Apparently I have to keep the whole season free so they can move dates at will

Good point legod - why not just move them and leave it at that. I suppose clubs might object because if you are on Sunday and not on tv then you clash with a live tv game but does that really matter?

On Salisbury's point: as it was a possibility from the start of the season why could not contingency plans that fixed the date more in advance have been made earlier?

DerbyDog - The WHU was changed because of TV requirements, not once but twice!! It was moved to Mon Night for Sky, but with the option of moving to Sat evening KO if WHU drew with Liverpool in The FA Cup. Seeing as this was always a possibility why didn't they just plan it as the Sat evening game from the off, and save inconviencing the fans who pay to go to the actual match.

Perhaps if we had stayed in the Europa, League Cup and FA Cup a bit longer, maybe we would have been inconveniencing other teams, as we did at the start of the season ?

Nick, this is a situation to which we must become resigned as no matter how much whingeing and belly-aching we do on here, nothing is going to change. It has sadly become part of the package on offer and maybe the time will come one day when all these frustrations finally become unacceptable to each one of us as individuals.

We all have tipping points when the negatives more than outweigh the positives. "Take it or leave it" stances of the PL & Sky/BT TV can result in customers saying "We'll leave it, thanks very much!"

Maybe you and I are not quite there yet but even you, you will find can be pushed so hard but no harder.

If the club are not sensitive to this then they are not doing their job as customer servers.
