Saints Make New Bid For Toby Alderweireld Tuesday, 7th Jul 2015 18:51 It is being reported that Saints have submitted another bid for Toby Alderweireld despite reports that he has passed a medical at Tottenham Hotspur.
The latest media reports are that Saints have reopened negotiations with Athletico Madrid and have made a new offer for the defender in a bid to resolve the contract dispute amicably.
It is being claimed that the bid is around the £14.2 million mark, a figure more than double the £6.8 million that Saints had the option to buy him for.
This brings the remarks made by the players Father and Agent earlier today into context and it seems that the saga may have another twist or turn before it runs its course yet.
Although the player will have a say where he wants to go, with time remaining on his contract Athletico are in charge of whether they sell him or not and they will want to sell to the highest bidder, it seems that the Spanish club now have the bidding war they have ben trying to create in the last fortnight, but whether Spurs have the money to go much higher without denting their own transfer strategy is not clear.

We could do a really smart piece of business here. Outbid Spurs to get the player, meet the payments up to the 6.8 When Turn the taps off and pull out the original loan deal. Meet at around £10m in court in three years time after playing the legal system. By which time Athletico will probably be skint and will take what they can get

The Guardian seems sure that the deal is done and that we are just negotiating 'compensation'. Evidently it's easier to fly to Belgium from London and Spuds offer a better bet on regular European football...

If what the Guardian says is correct(and I suspect it will be because it appears to be what the player himself wants) then I am starting to get a little concerned. We are now four odd weeks away from the start of the premiership season and the only member of last seasons regular defence who appears able to start is Fonte. Ryan will be absent for five weeks and Fraser for who knows how long? If you are correct in saying that we have now offered £14.2 million for Toby then why on earth did we not do so weeks ago? After all it was nailed on that Clyne would go and surely we must have know of Ryan's problems at the end of last season? Added to the above we have still not added a forward with a proven goal scoring record which means that we are chancing our arm on Jay being fit and back to his old form, both of which are big ifs.Throw into the mix the Spider-Man ongoing saga which to say the least is unhelpful and things start to look a little on the dark side to me. RK worked a miracle last season, asking him to do it consecutively with the resources at present at his disposal appears to me to be a big ask to say the least, particularly bearing in mind trips to Europe.

As things stand we have lost Clyne and replaced him with a very good young left back. Frazer and Ryan will mend. Not quite time yet to dial The Samaritans hotline.

Lol - the most amusing artical ofthe bunch in retrospect. Saints bid 3.5m more than Spurs and still get rejetced!

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
