30 - Marc Nygaard Wednesday, 6th Jun 2007 23:24 Marc Nygaard was rewarded for an impressive end to 2006/07 with a one year contract extension. DOB - 01/09/1976 This journeyman of European football arrived at Loftus Road on a free transfer from Italian side Brescia in the summer of 2005. He scored on his full debut at Leicester in a 2-1 win and looked a useful target man with whom Rangers could batter Championship defences. Sadly he turned out to be horrendously injury prone, regularly sitting out for weeks at a time with hamstring and calf complaints. Nygaard, who measures 6ft 5ins tall, still managed to be the joint top scorer with 9 goals from just 20 starts in his first season with Rangers and his ability to stay fit remains a key factor Since starting his career at Dutch club Heerenveen in 1995 his goal record is pretty dire but his height and awkwardness as a target man has attracted clubs in Holland, Italy and now England to his signature. He's even collected six caps for Denmark along the way, featuring in wins over Saudi Arabia, Germany and Malta, draws with Northern Ireland and the Czechs and a defeat by France. He made 25 appearances in total last season, scoring 4 goals, including the incredible 30 yard strike against Leicester at the Walkers Stadium and was subsequently rewarded with a one year contract extension for the new campaign.
