I've just looked at the DannyPaddoxthread & I'm pleased to see that I've not made any contradictions! I do need to add the Leeds away game to my list though.
As it was stated in that thread, it was an early kick off due to the three day week & power cuts. There was also petrol rationing in place & so the only way I could get there was on the "football special". This was the only time I used national rail to watch Rangers until I qualified for Senior Rail Dicsount!
So it was the Met Line to Baker Street & then across to Kings Cross(?). Of course, the times of the train hadn't been changed to take into account a different kick off time & (from memory) you had to be on the first laid on buses to reach the ground to see the start.
I managed to enter the ground in the wrong entrance & ended up as (possibly) the only Rangers fan not behind the goal. The Leeds people around me were not the self entitled supporters of today & were very generous of their praise for Rangers. They even stated that we deserved a draw! I didn't make the mistake of pointing out to them that it was only a draw because of the s**t referee who disallowed our "winning" goal for offside while the linesman flagged for a goal.
We had to wait an hour for the buses back to the station & most Rangers used the time to walk there. As I was separated from them & had no idea of what direction to go, I waited for the buses. Arriving at the station I went in the main entrance (wrong!) & bought the Leeds Pink 'un. I then noticed many a person stairing & pointing at me. Time to find the entrance reserved for us quickly!
The journey back was fine until we were close to our destination & then came to a stop for a long time. Memory tells me it was close to an hour, but that is probably an exaggeration. Back to Chesham & straight to the pub. Nobody believed me that I'd been to Leeds, even when I showed them the programme, but they couldn't argue with the Leeds classified paper! |

My favourite season Dave & I have many! Without consulting Gordon Macey I will list a few, hopefully in chronological order!
1) At home to West Ham remains the best 0-0 draw that I've seen. We had three goals disallowed for offside & played them off the park. One of the broadsheets reported that (from memory) "whatever the legal niceties of not being awarded the goals, Queens Park Rangers gave a footballing lesson that will live long in the memory".
2) A few weeks later, a 3-2 win at West Ham on a Monday night, including a goal from Ron Abbott. We were stood on the terrace opposite the Chicken Run close to the halfway line & the performance was so good that I forgot to be quiet! Surprisingly, they accepted me cheering Rangers until I was calling out to all the players as they left the pitch. A tap on the shoulder & I was told I had 30 seconds to get out of the ground. I made it with time to spare & I remain grateful for the chance given to me to leave unscathed!
3) I drove from Chesham to Wolverhampton by myself & used all the back roads. I found a brilliant parking space that allowed me to get away very quickly after the match & sped along the M6, wanting to be home at 7ish. My Vauxhall Viva suddenly didn't like the constant 100mph (no 70 limit at the time) & the engine stopped while I was passing everyone. I cruised onto the hard shoulder & a car pulled up in front of me offering to tow me off the motorway. I gladly accepted as it cost a fortune for breakdown at that time. I came off near Rugby & the AA arranged for a local garage to collect the car. I then hitched to Rugby station & caught a train to Berkhamsted. I was too knackered to get to the pub that night!
The match? This was the superb 4-2 victory that all Rangers supporters of my age constantly mention!
4) The next away match was away to Derby with this the first match as Mackay as their manager. My memory begins the previous day with the funeral of my 23 year old cousin who had been diagnosed with cancer just weeks before.
Anyhow, Alan & myself were up early to catch a bus to Berko, train to Rugby & hitch to the garage to collect my car to which they had fitted a second hand engine. No lifts were offered & so we ended up walking/running, but still reached Derby in time for the game. That is until i stopped at a shop & the car wouldn't restart! Call the AA & they got it going. We arrived at the ground after kick off & were told at the entrance that we're losing 1-0. They were surprised when I cheered! Soon afterwards it was 2-0 to the R's.
Back to the car & it wouldn't start. AA to the rescue again! It turned out that the fan belt was loose, but the engine was also faulty & cost more money to rectify. However, I made the pub that night!
5) Slip forward to New Years Day & five of us travelled to The Bush, including one manure fan. I can't recall being searched as thoroughly as we were that day & Rob was found to have something solid in his pocket. The officer made the mistake of placing his hand in the pocket & immediately made disapproving noises! A packet of sticky boiled sweets was found (but not confiscated) & we were allowed to take our places to see us destroy United & Best disappear into the sunset.
6) I went to Stamford bridge for the cup game (and the 3-3 draw in the league), but the replay was being played at 1.30pm(?). This took some planning to attend. Strangely enough, I made myself sick while at work in the morning & was sent "home". I think it was only my boss who didn't know where I was going! Half way to the ground it was announced on the radio that the pitch was waterlogged. I didn't think I could repeat this manoeuvre the following week!
7) A 0-0 draw at home to Leicester with Shilton giving the best display of goalkeeping that I've seen. This did not bode well!
8) FA Cup replay 3-2 win over Coventry. I'm sure most of you would have seen Stan's last second winner from a free kick, but the pure joy that night has only been bettered by the Oldham play off game!
9) Bloody Joe Waters! There endeth the season!

My apologies baz. I was so certain the injury was after the goals that I just checked on the full video & I was 100% wrong!
I still say that we would have been better having our left footed wide player on the left & Chair on the right though! |

Chair wasn't injured until after both of the Middlesbrough goals were scored & he gave next to zero support to Santos. Not that I think that would have made any difference.
The choice was who to play on the left & Cifuentes decided on the right footed Chair rather than the left footed Saito. [Post edited 17 Nov 14:06]

But that doesn't apply only to Klopp. All clubs have someone who abuses/bullies match officials & being the 4th official must be one of the most mentally draining jobs available.
What Coote has done, is to demolish the often stated line that our referees NEVER allow past events to influence future games. It would be impossible not be be influenced, even if this was only subconsiously (as most would be).
I've never understood how players & managers etc are surprised that this happens. I recall Gary Neville saying how shocked he was when Graham Poll was addressing United players pre season about law changes & referenced events from his previous dealings with those players. |

I readily admit to being happy with the summer transfer window as I knew nothing about the players, so I had no reason to question them. I also assumed that Marti would have approved of their signings, but I now have very big doubts about that.
That is, until I saw them playing for Rangers! Two of our signings might even displace Karl Elsey & Brian Williams in my all time Rangers team. That is something that I thought was impossible.
I don't understand the idea that we would be ok if we hadn't suffered all of our injuries. Better than we are? Yes, that I can accept & we probably wouldn't have conceded as many goals. We wouldn't have scored many more, although Frey possibly might have a couple more consolation goals to his name.
We have a better goalscorer on loan at Orient than we have available at Rangers. No, I'm not sugesting that Charlie Kelman is the answer to our attacking problems!
Would there be all this if we were 16th? Probably not, but we've not beeen close to that position since Nourry arrived as a consultant/CEO & many a poster has questioned our board/owners for at least 10 years. I personally, lost all respect for them after the appointment of Harold in 2012.
To some extent I thought it might be better with Ruben as the top man, but his choices of who to employ/trust have been just as bewildering as Tony's were! |

I think that all midweek games, Boxing Day, New Years Day & the last match of the season are being shown live.
That will take us to 26 this season, including three in the League cup. 15 of these are still to come! |

I've no idea if his injury is partly due to returning to the team before he should have, but I do know it was self inflicted. We've all beeen asking our players to make challenges, but when you have zero chance of winning the ball it was pointless!
I couldn't believe that he came back on the pitch. Either make the sub or play with ten men until half time, which is what we should have done with Paal against Sunderland(?). The few minutes that he was back on the pitch wouldn't have helped his recovery, but Ainsworth & Ramage are still praised for continuing with broken legs! |

I'm sure there are many reasons for stating the crowd as to how many tickets have been sold, but it has to be that way for accounting practices & payment of VAT.
The price that was paid for your season ticket has to be spread across the 23 matches, otherwise HMR&C will require clubs to hand over the duty at the time of receiving the income. Including the whole 20% for the tickets that are being paid for in installments.
This applies to all businesses & not just sports clubs. If you are attending a Christmas Party at a pub etc & have paid a deposit, the income is not declared until the day of the party. The deposits are held in a suspense account (not like the Post Office suspense account!) until the function. |

Yes, the rules for FFP, P&S are different for Leagues 1 & 2. However, on being promoted to The Championship the EFL recalculates the accounts as if they had been playing in that league.
In other words, for FFP purposes, Birmingham will be judged for season 2024/25 as a Championship club. That is, providing they gain promotion! |

So far this season WBA, Millwall, Coventry & Sunderland would have sold the whole of the away end & other clubs would have sold more for the lower block than we had home fans. That is a drop in income of approx £120k already!
Of course, that is not a gross loss as we would have had extra expenditure on stewards etc. It was a challenge laid down to Hoos though, as he had argued against any reductions in all of his time as CEO. |

You may not regard this as major, but he has lost the club revenue this season. It was his decision to sell a few hundred cheap season tickets for the lower school end rather than sell this area to away supporters. That has reduced our income by tens of thousands.
I know many on this site were in favour of this move as it would improve our chances in home matches, but it never made commercial sense & has probably had a negative effecton the atmosphere in the ground. |

Should MC go? A very definite NO!
However, I've struggled most of this season to understand his substitutions & feel that at present he is failing to impact matches. I'm sure that nearly all of us last night could see that Santos was being taken apart & needed help. I would also sugest that Saito was the only possible player that would provide this, but he was kept on the right where he is less effective. Only being able to use three subs against Sunderland is another indication of not controlling the changes.
The present situation at left back is very worrying as Saito looks the only option to play there, but as a left wing back. Hopefully, Morrison is now available to take a place in a back three (this would be asking a lot of him).
What I'm certain of though, is that nothing will permanently change while we have the same ownership. |
