| News Comment | Who Is Saints Greatest Ever Centre Forward ? Number 4 Ron Davies at 13:50:59
Big Ron, a total legend, and a real out and out striker, his centre forward ability was unrivalled, I can only say that SRL, is the only one who comes close to being in the same mould, which is saying something when you consider the way the game has changed and the speed it played at. Big Ron gets my vote! |

The only successful solution to these companies, is a general boycott by sellers and buyers, also a rival company advertising a max mark up would certainly get the buyers lined up, but what about the sellers? These supposed supporters, will they play fair or want the money? Only time would tell, but at least it would show exactly what each group wanted? |
| News Comment | Saints Need To Finish With A Flourish at 09:21:20
Agree with much you say, but if there is no effort to move up to the next level, Saints will always be one of the fifteen "liklies" that could get relegated. And if you look at most of the clubs they are trying to do the same thing. It is all down to budget, canny purchases and developing new talent. I have to say that overall our rated players did not move up to the next level themselves, Lallana is a case in point, but also Ramirez. We need the key players, those that can turn a defeat into a draw or win. Our style of play creates goal scoring chances, but we need the quality to put these chances away more often. At the beginning of the season all the worry was about our defence, but overall the problem has been up front, not being able to finish teams off or put away the chances the team created. Can we buy Van Persie? |
| News Comment | 26 Hours That Will Shape The Season's End at 15:49:33
Sorry to read such a lot of doom and gloom. Our destiny's in our own hands, we are not dependant on what other teams do. Yes admittedly it is nice to see teams below us lose, but regardless, Saints are more than good enough to gain a point at Sunderland, and a win at home. Even in the worst case scenario and Saints lose there remaining two games, who believes that Norwich will get anything either? They have games homes to WBA, and then away to MC, hard to see how they will get anything from those two, except a point possiblly at home to WBA! And with a considerably worse GD that will not be good enough. Newcastle also have a hard run in, away to QPR, who are playing well and home to Arsenal who are fighting tooth and nail for CL spot. So the bottom line, it is good to. Worry and it will hopefully give our players the edge they need for the run in. But of the bottom seven clubs, I bet all the others would want to be in our position and playing our games. Our more worrying problems are the lack of regular goal scores, and those getting the chances not taking them. The game Saturday summed up a lot of PL games; ie, one of few chances. We had more than Spurs, but they had a player to score there one half chance. We need player/s to do the same for us. Chances come infrequently they need to be put away, but who do we have to do this? |
| News Comment | Saints V West Brom The Verdict at 17:45:42
I think our blaming our own team is taking a lot away from WBA. They obviously knew the boom ball over the top is our weakness, and they had two players up front with the quality to exploit this. And to be honest WBA were just as good with the ball on the floor and the passing game. Their scoring first was the clincher, WBA could then defend deep and catch us on the counter attack. Which they did with regularity and quality. Our attack was ponderous, there was little movement off the ball and you could see the game slow down every time Saints got the ball, there was only ever one pass open to our player on the ball and that was inevitably a back-pass. I think this is just a blip for our team. We have to be more canny and defensive at the start against quality teams, and WBA are a quality team, no doubt. Saints need to score first as it suits our style of play to have the opposition attacking or chasing the game. It is unfair to constantly blame the defence as they are usually left to handle attackers on their own due to the mid-field being to high up the pitch. As much as we hate it the "boom-ball" is our Achilles heel, and we need to find a way to counter it. |
| News Comment | Stoke Game Cheap Seats Sell Out In Record Time at 11:27:04
Since Saints being in the doldrums for the last 5-6 years, a lot of casual support drifted away, the sudden rise to the PL didn't automatically draw these ones back in, but our current style of play and form is starting to, and also pulling in not just these but also there are new supporters swelling our ranks, I believe that If Saints get a good start next season, then Stoke could be the norm for every match? Roll on! |
| News Comment | Saints Can Achieve Mathematical Survival This Weekend ! at 20:38:38
in all honesty looking at the bottom clubs this last weekend, I think they have given up the ghost. Once they concede a goal they go to pieces, I cannot see Wigan getting many more points. saints are well safe and no more points are need for survival. I could be wrong though? |
| News Comment | How This Weekend Affects Saints at 10:48:02
Ifs, buts and maybes, the season is in our hands, we have four points and a better goal difference, that is an aweful lot for teams to make up in only five games. They are not at the bottom because of their good form or run of winning games. Another 1 or 2 points will guarantee our survival, I think though that rightfully we are looking up not down, we do have good form and are on a good run. Top ten is a definite maybe! |
| News Comment | Saints Greatest Ever Player at 11:12:03
All of the above....it is not just the amount of goals a players scores or the number of appearances he makes. There is a connection made between fans and a player, each generation has its hero(s) and Ricky Lambert today is one of these and therefore he must be included. There may be others currently playing, if fans feel an affinity with a player or players, and if enough fans feel the same these also must. Be included. As to the "best ever" player, that answer again will change with every year, let alone each generation. Those of the past must be remembered and celebrated, but for me it is first "Le God", and then "Ricky". But ask me tomorrow and again my decision may change as I think back to others not mentioned, such as Kevin Keegan, Peter Osgood, Steve Wiliams, and others my memory has a struggle to remember. |
| News Comment | The Texaco Cup 1974 at 23:27:52
The only truly rememberable memory of that cup run was playing football in the afternoon against some very drunk Rangers fans before the match, They took over the Above Bar there seemed so many, In fact we were all pretty skinned. They weren't that friendly after the game and to be honest nor were we. There were some very hairy times running on the rail tracks on central station I remember |
| News Comment | The Barracking Has To Stop at 09:19:41
I was at millwall, and no player tried as hard as Guly, he really tried putting himself about, I thought he was going to get booked a couple of times, but the millwall players were very physical and we needed our players to step up, and Guly did. Toward the end I thought our talent showed as the millwall players tired. What I can't understand is why they are near the bottom? Anyway this is my first blog, and I only dreamed of Saints being in this position at the beginning of the season, and a large reason why we are top is down to a complete team effort, Guly being a main part in the team |
