LFW Awaydays — West Bromwich, The Hawthorns

Where and why are QPR going wrong? LFW Forum
at 22:10:22

I still don't get the obsession with Faurlin. At this level, he is lightweight. Never seen him win a header, he's slow at getting back, positioning in-front of the back four is poor, and I have never, ever, seen him communicate to other players. The number of times I've seen him collide with Derry, Barton, or a.n.other is countless. Having said that, better than Buz* or Derry.

*Of course, Buz was key to the season...for the one game against Wigan.

The end of the beginning, but hopefully not the beginning of the end — full match report
at 11:50:18

I saw the Luke Young thing in the Ellerslie Rd stand, although not clearly I have to admit. Looked to me as if someone was having a pop at the Blackburn winger from the stand, and Young said a few choice words back. Abusing players is possibly a little too early, and not the way we really want to go.

If someone had said after that Bolton game that we would be 11th after 8 games I would have laughed. Look at the results since the 'new' team came out: Draw with Newcastle who are still undefeated. Draw with Villa who have only lost once. Win against Wolves who are well below us. Freak (let's hope so) loss against Fulham. Draw against relegation fodder Blackburn. The first three results are good, the last two poor, a blip, but not exactly a tragedy. 6 points from those 5 games. Not great, but not terrible. Also bear in mind that the team we ran out of Saturday consisted of 5 new players, alongside 6 of the Championship squad. On that basis I would say we're punching above our weight. With that squad keeping a point a game ratio until January is going to be good form, and then we'll have to rebuild in the transfer window and push for a mid-low table slot. Surely no-one is going to argue with that finish to the season?

Bolton hand QPR reality check — full match report
at 08:35:05

Regardless of how good our defence or strikeforce was last season, the Premiership is a huge step up from the Championship. Although in recent years promoted teams have had more success than those in the past, tackling the Prem still requires a change of strategy, tactics, and in our case squad.

Looking at the starting eleven against Leeds in the last game of the season, and you wouldn't have expected (or hoped) that many of those players were to get anywhere near the team sheet on Saturday. Who do you think was more surprised that Clint Hill started at left-back on Saturday? Us, Warnock, or Clint Hill?

We won't survive in this league with a Championship defence. And we definitely won't survive while 6 of our field players have a creative factor of 0.

Warnock's tactics were crude against Bolton, but I didn't see how else he could play it. A flat back six and a front four of Adel, Smith, Bothroyd, and Campbell was always going to result in long-field punts, flicks, and a desperate hope we could create something on the counter - while that worked for the first half, I could tell it wasn't sustainable.

My one criticism of the team's actions on Saturday is the lack of communication. There is no commanding voice on the pitch. If you watch the first goal for Bolton, no-one points out the free man until it's too late. Faurlin goes tracking down the right, leaving space in the middle, and no-one is there shouting at him to get back into position.

QPR kick start their summer with Bothroyd deal

Totally agree with the above Clive. Although, I put money on Bothroyd to score more than C. Cole next season. 2 - 1. Those aren't the odds, but the number of goals.

This Week — QPR’s Riquelme deserves everything that’s coming to him

"As ever, that clunge is best ignored."

Best line of the article, and I hope Steve "QPR are a mid-table team" Claridge is reading. It sickens me that idiots like him make a mint from talking utter rubbish about football on TV, while Clive writes this kind of gold for free.

Of course, Claridge has played for 15 league teams, including the likes of Weymouth, Worthing, and Harrow, so he must know what he's talking about...

This Week — Hello darkness my old friend
at 17:40:37

The issue this raises is the same one we had last season. Who is running the club? And why are they doing such a good job at screwing things up? We need the puppets, muppets, and useless b@stards out asap. Perhaps someone could try running our club as a proper business for once? That involves getting any legal requirements fulfilled, and paperwork delivered on-time.

A poor game from Routledge and Taarabts (probably a result of that dodgy kebab), Buz kept disappearing as well. The spine of the team held strong though - Kenny, Derry, and Helguson all played the part brilliantly.

Monday Diary — R’s play down penalty row
at 08:09:27

"...the full-backs don't cross the halfway line and the front four have individual talent that can win them matches. That's a formula that seems to be working very well for them this year."

Yes, a winning formula involves defenders who can defend, and forwards who can attack. Strange that. Perhaps Mowbray could learn a lesson from Saturday's game, and concentrate more on his defenders, who can't defend, and his forwards, who can't attack.

Warnock’s defensive gamble pays off against Ipswich — full match report
at 12:42:16

I agree 100% about the balance of the team going forward. I didn't see the game on Tuesday, but against Forest, Miller on the right, Hulse in the middle, and Adel on the left just didn't work. On at least three occassions, Miller bounded down the wing, using a combination of skill and physical presence (substantially more of the latter) to get to the by-line, only to then play the ball across the box to where he should have been standing himself (Hulse being nowhere near the cross). If each of those runs had been straight down the middle of the park, I think the result could have been very different.

For me, in the next match, we need to see Helguson in the first-half, and Miller in the second. As for the wingers and the support man, any mix of Routledge, Adel, Buz, Moen, and even Chimbonda in those three poitions would produce better results going forward.

Santos had a 50p head, and Toblerone boots, but at least he was consistent.

I've never seen a player who could play any ball, from any position, 50 yards down the pitch. Didn't matter if he was on the goal line, or 3 yards out at the other end, the ball would end up landing 50 yards away.

This Week — Gray falls on his pork sword
at 08:26:50

Great write-up Clive, probably the best I've read on the Gray and Keys.

Wouldn't bank on Keys being around much longer though. A lot of papers 'revealing' previously unseen footage of him making similar comments to Gray over the past year.

As you say though, Gray is the big loss, Keys is just filler.

P.S. Keep up the good work! And don't worry about Coventry fans, they're just bitter that they're from Coventy (or near-abouts).
